When Quinn woke up, Zak was still asleep with his arm draped over Biscuit. Thankfully, there was no school today, so Quinn had woken up at around 11:00 A.M. They gently pet Biscuit's soft fur, wondering when Zak would wake up. The two knew each other well enough that Quinn could get up and make breakfast if they pleased, but Quinn decided to stay in bed a little longer.
Zak's bed was positioned at the middle of the wall, facing the door and closet. Quinn stared at the dark red walls for a while before deciding to go downstairs and make breakfast. Quietly, Quinn made their way down the steps, turning toward the kitchen. They took a moment to fill Biscuit’s food and water bowls before taking out ingredients for pancakes. Soon Zak was downstairs, just in time for a chocolate chip pancake.
“Ooh, thank you,” Zak beamed. Biscuit came running down the stairs moments later, walking into the kitchen to be by Zak and eat some food.
“That looks like a comfy robe,” Quinn commented as they headed toward the table with a plate of pancakes. Zak was wearing a fuzzy blue robe covered in snowflakes and little penguins.
“Thanks, I bought it last summer,” Zak replied.
“You bought a penguin robe in the summer?”
“Nah, it was actually--I was… I was making a joke.”
“Oh. You can’t expect me to get your jokes this early in the morning.”
“It’s noon though,” Zak told them.
“What’s your point?”
“Hey,” Zak paused to take a bite of pancake, “what’re we doing today? You gonna go home or you wanna keep hanging out?”
“Do you want to see if we can meet up with Amelia and Lexis today? Maybe then we can tell them about the hand.”
“Should we go to the park?” Zak asked.
“Yeah.” Quinn thought for a moment. “Oh hey, we can go to the beach too. Park or beach?”
“I like the beach. Let’s go there,” Zak decided, stuffing more pancake in his mouth.
After breakfast, Quinn ran upstairs to call Amelia and Lexis. Zak and Biscuit followed, listening as Quinn put the phone on speaker.
Elsewhere, Amelia was was looking through the library’s fantasy books when she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She stepped outside and answered the call. “Helloo?”
“Hey Amelia.”
“Oh, hi Quinn,” Amelia greeted them cheerily. “What’s up?”
“I’m at Zak’s house--”
“That’s me,” Zak interrupted.
