As days went by, the four friends tried to find out what their powers were. Amelia thought that, after reading through the book again, Quinn was probably Winter. However, she couldn’t decide which ones Lexis and Zak were. They both liked animals and plants. She wondered if maybe they had differing feelings about children.

“Do you like kids?” Amelia asked Zak. Today they were at the beach again with Lexis and Quinn. They had laid out a thin sheet to sit on, since they were all in wet swimsuits. While Amelia spoke with Zak, Quinn and Lexis played in the water.

“Um, I don’t know,” Zak answered. “They seem cute, but they can also be mean and loud.”

“What about babies?”

“Loud.”

“Oh yeah, they do cry,” Amelia nodded understandingly. “I don’t mind that really. Hi Biscuit,” Amelia laughed as Biscuit licked her hand. “The book says that a Spring attracts animals and children, not necessarily that a Spring likes those things,” Amelia realized. “Do you think you attract children?”

“I don’t think so. Little kids like Lexis though. Maybe Lexis is Spring,” Zak guessed.

“Maybe,” Amelia responded. She lay on her back, enjoying the sun. “That would make you an Autumn. Do you like autumn?”

“Yeah, it’s my favorite season.”

“Oh,” Amelia remembered something. “We tend to favor our seasons. That’s what the book said. My favorite season is summer, so that makes sense. If yours is autumn, maybe you’re Autumn.”

“Maybe,” Zak smiled. “That’d be nice. What would my powers be?”

“You could change the colors of leaves and I think make wind.”

“Why is wind just an autumn power?”

Amelia shrugged. “I don’t make the rules.”

“Make sure you don’t get burnt,” Zak worried.

“Oh,” Amelia sat up. “Thanks, I brought sunscreen. You want some?” she offered.

“I already put some on, unlike a certain Quinn,” Zak chuckled.

“Quinn!” Amelia shouted.

“What!”

“Put sunscreen on!” Amelia scolded them.

“Make me!”

“What!”

Quinn laughed, heading as quickly as they could into deeper water as Amelia ran after them. Lexis, deciding to protect Quinn, splashed her. From the shore, Zak watched as a water fight happened. “Let’s go get them, Biscuit,” Zak told his pet. Biscuit went to play in the shallow water where everyone eventually ended up. At some point, they all just sat in the water and talked.
