Chapter Two – Merena
I came face to face with the strange ghost. Well, she wasn’t that strange, unless you count the fact that her aura glowed a bright yellow color, whereas most ghosts are a faded out color of what they were in their human lives. All of the ghosts still on Earth were having troubles moving on, or they just plain didn’t want to. Oh, and another thing that was strange about her? She glowed a yellow color that no living thing ever glows. At least in my books, that was the case.
Besides the glowing weirdness, she was absolutely gorgeous. The spirit had long, curly brown locks, deep green eyes, and a soft, but straight nose. She was about a centimeter taller than me. The ghost stood tall, but it had a broken nature to it. And for some reason I felt drawn to her. Like we were supposed to touch or something.
“How are you?” I asked politely, still taking her features in. Pale skin, that was once tan, skinny, and she was in jeans and a jacket. She must’ve died pretty recently, but not too recently. Her jeans were above her waste. Must’ve been late 90’s early thousands. She didn’t answer; she was still looking at me.
We were silent for a few moments, but then the spirit broke the silence, “Does everyone see you as yellow?”
I was taken aback by the question. She saw my aura as yellow as well? “No...Everyone sees me as a green. Dark, but bright.”
“Why do I see you as yellow?” She asked, obviously confused.
“What do most people see you as?”
“Pink,” the spirit replied.
“Then why do I see you as yellow?” I countered her first question. She just shook her head. I considered for a little bit. What should I do? Uncle Alger would know, I bet. I’ll ask him.
“Listen, I’ve got to go. I’ll come back when I can, okay?” I explained, and then rushed to my car to pile in and drive quickly to Uncle Alger.
I pulled up to his house, or mansion, as I should say. It was much bigger than a normal house, rising three stories high with a basement. I rushed inside without caring to look at the outside of the structure, since I know the gay stone and gargoyles all too well.
The warmth hit me when I got inside. Immediately I felt safe. Uncle Alger’s place was a very comforting area to be for some reason; it was past my knowledge as to why, but it was.
“Merena! What brings you here?” Aunt Zahra, Uncle Alger’s wife asked.
“I’m feeling a bit troubled,” I admitted.
“Phys’ stuff?” she asked sympathetically, and she nodded. “Well, Alger would know all about that.”
I nodded again. That’s the man’s mission in life. Hi soul has been reincarnated over and over again to help us physics. Of course, the human in him allows him to do other things, but he strives to help people like me. Aunt Zahra is a physic herself, so she understands my needs.
Uncle Alger was in his study, sitting on the floor in criss-cross-applesauce with his eyes closed. He was muttering words in a different language. Uncle Alger realized our presence, so he opened his eyes and smiled.
“Hello, Merena. How may I assist you? I feel you’re puzzled,” he asked, standing up to face me.
“I am. I found a ghost with a strange aura today,” I explained.
“What by strange do you mean?”
“Well, first off, it was bright. Just as bright as a human’s.”
“Had they died recently?”
“No, not by the looks of it. She’s been there for quite some time,” I replied.
“That’s peculiar,” Uncle Alger muttered, obviously thinking hard.
“I thought that it was weird myself. And then the aura was yellow, which I’ve never seen before. I didn’t even know it was possible!” I continued.
“Oh,” Uncle Alger chuckled, shaking his head. “ I know exactly what this is!”
“Can you enlighten me?”
“Of course! When someone’s aura is yellow to you, your soul is connected with that person’s soul. Most of the time when they aren’t family, you were in a past life, or your soul and the other’s soul is just one large soul spilt. Or sometimes, they’re your soul’s mate from when your soul was first created. Not everyone gets a soul mate; only when your soul is created does it get a soul mate. That soul mate will always be made at the exact time. And always, if you meet your soul mate, it will be a romantic relationship,” Uncle Alger lectured.
So this spirit can be my soul mate?! But...I’m not a lesbian. I’m straight, right? Looking back on it, I don’t really know; she was so beautiful and I had the urge to put my hands all over her. I’m straight! “What do you think she is to me?”
“I’m getting a very strong vibe that she’s your soul mate,” Uncle Alger confirmed.
“Oh great,” I said rolling my eyes.
“But because, most soul mates are naturally male and female, and you’re heterosexual, I think she’s just a sister in a past life or something,”
“Oh, okay,” I said relieved.
Uncle Alger took a deep breath, closing his eyes. “She doesn’t ever move out of that cemetery. I would suggest talking to her a bit more and try to get her to move on. She’s been there too long.”
“Okay,” I nodded, but it was half-hearted. Honestly, I didn’t want her to move on. It was selfish, but that’s how I felt.
