When I arrived at the hospital, I scurried and asked immediately the woman behind the nurse's station.

"Room 304 ma'am. Go down the hall and turned left. First door on the right." She smiled as she instructed me.

"Thank you." I did as what she told me and approached the first door on the right. It's closed so I knocked lightly before entering.

Glenn was lying on the hospital bed with his eyes closed. But then, he opened them as he realized that someone came. I could see how his eyes sparkled as the sight of me.

"Hi. How are you doing?" I greeted him warmly and sat on the chair next to his bed.

"I'm glad you came." I could sense the happiness in his voice though it was a little husky and low. He might have slept for several hours before I came.

"Yeah. What happened?"

He stared at the ceiling. I could feel how his mood diverted easily. Something terrible happened to him and I wasn't even there to help him because I was such an egoistic person who only thought about myself.

"I found out that our beloved mother was making a decision of her own without asking permission from me. She made a lot of changes in the restaurant and even fired a lot of employees who worked with us for a long time including Loyd."

"Why did she do that?" Irritation started to fill me as I heard it.

"Because she is a greedy woman. I argued with her about it but it seemed that it was impossible to change her mind. Dad gave that damn restaurant to me before he died. I've been managing it for years but now, I think I'm gonna lose it." He said in exasperation. Even his eyes were starting to water while talking.

"Hey. You're not gonna lose it. Maybe she just wants to help you." I didn't wanna sound like I was in our mother's side but it would have been better if I just kept whatever feelings I had for her only this time so to lessen his resentment. I tried my best to resist my anger.

He shook his head, giving me a fake smile. "You don't know her Alexis. She's a monstrous kind of woman."

I never expected him to say those four words to her. There was something he never told me. "Glenn, how did you know we're siblings?"

He paused for a moment giving himself time to think before speaking. "One day, he came to me and asked me to do her a favour. She told me that I had a sister and it was you. She wanted me to make friends with you and she even planned to brainwash you so it wouldn't have been hard for her to explain why she left you. That was all she said to me. Sorry, I didn't know the details."

"But why didn't you tell me the truth?"

"Coz I didn't want her to control you. I wanted to protect you from her. "

"Is that also the reason that you betrayed me?"

"Yeah... I told you that my mom was already dead and my dad's condition was awful that was why I had to manage our business. I was way too mad at her for doing this to us that's why I said that she was dead."

I bit my lower lip. I wasn't expecting this. I couldn't have imagined that he was leading a dog's life in the hands of our mother. But somehow, I understood him. Therefore, I concluded that I wasn't the only person who despised her. There was Glenn who could be on my side.

"You know what? Never in my life, I wished to see her. I'm always contented with what I have in my life. I don't care whether I am poor or rich as long as I'm with my aunt, I'm happy." I emotionally told him.
