In the Beginning.

I sigh as I grab my lunch bag out the pantry and begin to fill it with snacks and leftover spaghetti for work. I've been working nightshift at the hospital for about 2 months now. 11pm to 7am. It's been killing me to be away from my baby that long. Tre was supposed to be on his way to pick Zen up but he was running a little late.
*calling Zenith Sperm Donor 🙄*

"Hello" he says as the loud music plays

"Are you outside?" I ask aggravated

"Listen Gen I got caught up doing something tonight... maybe you can call your mom or something. I got you Monday though." Tre says through the phone.

"Are you serious?" I take a deep breath and try to stay calm.
"Why didn't you let me know way earlier?"

"It was something last minute."

"Alright." I say ending the call.

I couldn't call my mom because she wasn't feeling well. My brother and his girlfriend stayed about an hour away. And Jayla was going out tonight. So Malik was the last person I had in mind. I was trying to distance myself from him. But it's like the world won't let me.

Genesis: Hey Malik.. I hate to ask you this, but do you think you could watch Zenith? I have to work tonight and Tre flaked on me so If you can't watch him I have no idea what I'm gonna do.~10:13pm

Malik- yea I gotchu... what time?~10:14

Genesis- can you be here by 10:30 maybe? And y'all can stay here I don't mind...~10:15

10 mins later

"Thank you so much for coming Malik."

"no problem Gen, i told you whenever you need me i gotchu."

"yea i know." i say grabbing my coat off the couch
"well i'll be back around 7 or 8 depending on traffic. again thank you so much. i love you stanka" i say kissing Zens cheeks

I hop in my car and begin to drive to the hospital making a pit stop at starbucks to get me and my coworker tammy our fav drinks. I order my favorite Caramel macchiato and a coffee cake, and Tammys vanilla latte. i finally make my way to work after i clock in i take tammy her coffee

"here you go tammy.." i say handing her coffee

"thank you Genesis" Tammy says hugging me

"Damn Genesis, i'm your sons aunt and you can't get me anything from starbucks? I mean hell i even got you this job." Trinity says

Yea Trinity got me this job but it wasn't because she was my sons aunt it was because Tre pays her bills and he told her to get me a job here and if she didn't he'd stop paying her bills. honestly i have no idea why she doesn't like me. She's never liked me. and honestly i don't give two fucks about her.

"actually i did get you something."
"i wasn't sure what kind of coffee you'd like so i just got you this Coffee cake." i say opening the bag and handing her the coffee cake.

"thanks Genesis." she says with her nose turned up.

i go to the back and begin changing into the scrubs that were provided. Tonight i was assigned to Labor and delivery. After i was dressed i went to the break room for huddle and we figured out what patient i was gonna have and where she was at in labor.

Through out the night I inserted a catheter in the soon to be mother other medications i was assigned to give her. she'd been in labor for 13 hours and and baby still wasn't there. she still hadn't gave birth at the end of my shift.
