Chapter One

The Mystery Teens were on edge for weeks, just waiting for the games to begin, though they never came. The girls had almost forgotten about it and decided to go on with their lives, but they stuck together and became best friends once more.

It was Halloween and the girls decided to stay indoors and watch a scary movie. The night was going great and all the girls were getting along, they have no idea what the night truly held in store for them.

“Guys, this is our last Halloween together.” Maisy said as she threw herself onto the couch of their treehouse living room.

“That's so not true.”  Jace rolled her eyes. “Were going to come back home from college to spend Halloween with each other.”

“Or, we could all just go to the same college?” Bailey suggested.

Jace smiled and nodded eagerly.

“Let's be realistic guys.” Gianna told them. “Were not all going to want to go to the same college, and we might not be able to come home next year. We should treat this Halloween like our last one as the Mystery Teens.”

“We will always be the Mystery Teens, even if we're not together.” Maisy said and the girls agreed.

They put the movie on, turned the lights off and watched all the jump scares, all the deaths and screams, though nothing was scarier than when they heard the ring of the wall phone.

They all stopped breathing, and listened to the ringing, hoping that was coming from the TV, but knowing it wasn't. To make sure, Jace grabbed the remote and turned the TV off, and to there fear the phone kept ringing. It only rang once before, and they hoped it would never ring again.

Maisy stood up and slowly walked over to the phone. “Maisy don't touch it, don't give them what they want.” Bailey told Maisy, but her curiosity would allow her to walk away from the phone. She picked it up and held it to her ear.

“Hello?” She said weakly but there was no response. “Whoever you are, just leave us alone!” Maisy yelled and tried to keep her voice stern.

There was a long silence and they the same cold voice from the weeks earley started to chant again. “One Two Three Four, Who is knocking at your door?”

Someone from the outside porch started banging on the door and everyone turned to see who is was. Jace ran over to the door, but it wouldn't open. “Five Six Seven Eight, Tonight you’ll meet your untimely fate.” The knocking stopped and the girls waited anxiously for the voice to continue. “Nine, and Ten, tonight you’ll meet your end!” The voice laughed and then the line cut off. Maisy slowly put the phone back on the wall and the banging on the door started again.

“Okay, that’s it!” Gianna grabbed a baseball bat and ran to the door. She kicked the door and it flew open. Gianna looked around but no one was there, instead there was a small parchment envelope with a red wax stamp lying on the floor. Gianna picked the envelope off of the floor and Jace, Maisy and Bailey gathered around her.

“Open it!” Maisy yelled.

“No, don't be stupid it could be dangerous!” Bailey said as she hid behind Maisy.

“I'm not opening it, I'm not giving into the psychopath.” Gianna said and through the envelope out the door and let it get blown away by the wind. “There, problem solved.” She clapped her hands together and shut the door.

“Are you sure that was the best idea?” Jace asked as she looked out the window and waited for something to happen.

“Yep, it was a great idea.”  Gianna said satisfied and threw herself onto the couch. The rest of the girls made their way back over to the living room, but the door flew open and the letter was back were it started. “Fuck.” Gianna muttered.
