"Welcome to the E.R."

I walked through the big white doors with emergency written on it. Immediately I felt chaos, everyone running around and patients everywhere. Before I knew it I almost got knocked over by a hospital bed that was being pushed at lighting speed.

'Sorry!' I heard an middle aged man with glasses yell to me. I decided to get out of everyone's way and I walked to the front desk. A big guy with a blue coat came up to me. The guy had brown short hair and a beard. He leaned his arm on the counter and took a deep breath. He looked really tired although it was only eight a.m.

'Good morning, what can I help you with?' He asked.

'Hi, I'm Valerie Brooke. I'm supposed to start my E.R. rotation today.' I replied.

'Oh, hi Valerie. I'm Jerry the desk clerk. We've been expecting you, just one second I need to get the form.' He said to me and he quickly grabbed a paper and pen. I took a moment to look around the building, it calmed down a lot since I walked in. 'Just fill this in.' Jerry said as soon as he got back.

'It's already crazy in here. Is it always like that?' I asked to him as I grabbed the pen from him.

'Everyday but you will get used to it.' He smiled. 'When you're done filling this in call me and I will introduce you to your mentor.' He continued.

'Welcome to the E.R.' he told me just before he walked away.

I scanned over the long form. I quickly filled in my basic information such as my name but there were also longer questions like: "Why have you chosen this hospital?" So those took a little longer. I wanted to explain my answers as best as I could so I took my time. After a while, everything was filled in and I called Jerry.

'Thank you.' He said and he took the paper from me. 'Well let me see.' he continued as he typed in some things in the computer. 'You're resident is doctor Benton.' He replied after a while and his face expression changed, but not in a good way. 'He has another student so you'll have to work together, that won't be a problem right?' He asked and I nodded. 'Walk with me.' He smiled and I followed him to the other side of the counter.

The admitting desk was a square in the middel of the room. The front of the square is where I walked in and where the trauma's come in. To the left were the gurneys and two exam rooms as it would seem. The back of the front desk had different computers on it and a hallway to the other side of the desk. Jerry and I walked in exam room one, to go to doctor Benton.

'Here he is.' He said and he pointed to the tall man around his thirties. He had black short hair, brown skin and a mustache.

'Benton, this is Valerie Brooke. She will be your attending.' Jerry said and doctor Benton walked out of the exam room into the hall, completely ignoring me. We quickly followed him. He looked around the administration desk like he was looking for something and he glanced at me for a second

'Hello, nice to meet you.' Benton said kind of

'Have you seen Carter?' Benton asked Jerry ignoring me, again.

'Nice to meet you.' I mumbled trying to get his attention.

'I think he's stitching some up in exam four.' Jerry responded.

'Okay, well Brooke you can help him with that.' He said, he wasn't even looking at me when he talked. 'He will explain the rest. If you need me just... ask Jerry or something.' He said and he stormed off.

'Was it just me or was he incredibly rude.' I said. 'Benton is not the nicest doctor around.' Jerry replied. Great...
