"Anytime"

Carter's POV (hehehe)

'What you just said... Did you mean-' I said and her mouth slightly opened as if she was trying to say something. I wanted to run up to her and fix this. I love her, how couldn't I? But I thought she wanted to be friends. She said so herself at the party. Yet, we stand here both wanting but to afraid to act.

'I'm sorry John but just... not now.' She said and I let my head fall. Something is wrong, I know it is. If things just could go back to before. When she was sleeping on my shoulder, when she danced like no one was watching or running into a snow storm without thinking to help a patient.

I saw her run off in the snow and I decided to not go after her. If she wanted to tell me she would have by now. I went back inside and waited for Benton to come and scream at me.

'Is she okay?' Jerry asked, with big eyes wondering if I finally said something.

'I don't know.' I said kind of annoyed. The last thing I needed was for everyone to start asking questions.

'You?' He asked. 'I've been better.' I said as I quickly grabbed chart to get away from everyone.

'Carter!' I heard someone scream and I stopped in my tracks. Benton...

'Don't you ever fight in my trauma again!' He yelled, I don't need someone screaming at me again. 'And were is Brooke?!' He barked.

'She left, we had a fight.' I mumbled as I put my hands through my hair. 'She can't leave in the middle of her shift because she is upset?' He calmed down and pulled me aside as soon as he noticed people were starring.

'She only had a half an hour left.' I defended. I knew she doesn't like that I'm defending her right now but I needed to do something. Benton is not the type to forgive and forget.

'That isn't an excuse.' He said as he quickly looked around the room.

'Give her a break... she is taking care of her little brother while managing 36 hours shifts and your constant yelling.' I said a little louder then I meant.

'If she can't handle it there is someone else to take her place. Now go back to work.' He snapped and I rolled my eyes. 'Sure.' I mumbled under my breath as I went to my new patient.

I sat on the couch in the lounge room for my break, only a few hours after the fiasco. Luckily no one was around at twelve o'clock. "You should tell her" my subconscious said. I didn't wanted things to change between us, that's why I didn't tell her in the first place. But after this fight things have already changed. I should apologize first before doing anything stupid.

I took a deep breath in, hoping that it would help me. This girl was stuck in my head, consuming my thoughts every second. I looked up when I heard the door open and Mark walked in.

'I heard you got girl problems.' He said and I laughed.

'News does travel fast around here.' I said as I played with my fingers.

'Especially if you scream at each other at the front desk.' He said and I grinned again thinking about how stupid our fight was.

'No, that wouldn't help indeed.' I said as he sat down next to me.

'Want to talk about it?' he asked.

'I don't know what do Mark.' I said as I sighed.

'I'm not really into all the gossip around here but it seems that you and Valerie have been a hot topic lately.' He said and I rolled my eyes.
