I walk down the hall with my Calculus book in hand when I hear a voice behind me.
"Kayla! Kayla! Wait up!" My best friend Piper Reynolds shouts, careening down the hall. I turn just in time to see her trip over someone's foot and tumble to the ground. I laugh so hard that my stomach starts to cramp up and tears start to stream down my face.
"Oh my gosh! That was too funny!" I say in between laughs as I try to calm myself down.
"Shutup, it wasn't funny," she says, but even though she is trying to keep a straight face, she starts to crack a smile and giggle a little, "okay, maybe it was a little funny." We start walking again, both off to calculus.
"Was there homework last night?, she asks. I sigh and look at her.
"Piper, let's face it, we both know that you, of all people, knew there was homework and you didn't do just yours, you did mine too. So stop trying to be bad. It's not gonna work for you." I say, smiling at her, grabbing her book and retrieving my homework from it. "Thanks by the way."
"I could be bad if I wanted to. I just choose to keep my grades up." She grumbles, getting her homework out and turning it in. I laugh and turn mine in as well.

We walk into the cafeteria and get into the line for lunch. I grab a piece of pizza and a water. Piper gets a ham and cheese sandwich and some smoothie thing. We pay and sit down beside my other best friend, Andrew Daniels.
"Hey, how's it goin'?" he says, looking up from his sandwich.
"Not too bad, I mean I've made it through half of the day, what's another half?"
"True, true. Hey, Pipes."
"Hey," she stated.
"What's your deal?" I ask, picking up my pizza and taking a huge bite.
"Such class, so much grace in one person," Andrew said, and I smiled at him with my mouth full.
"So seriously, what's wrong Pipes?" he asks, turning back to her.
"Nothing, I'm just tired." she says, looking down at her sandwich.
"I don't even believe that for a second. Tell us," I say, "right now or I'll scream."
"Okay, okay. I just got a C+ on my AP Physics test, and forgot about the extra credit, so my grade probably dropped at least a half a letter, maybe more."
"It'll be okay, Piper, you can bring it up. I know you, you always find a way to get those grades up!" I say, trying to cheer her up.
"I know, it just sucks right now, because if my parents find out, I'll never get out of the house again."
"What they dont know won't hurt them," Andrew says with a smile. I laugh and lunch continues on as usual. Since we have an hour lunch period, and I only use half to eat, I decide to go down to the bandroom to practice my music. Auditions are after school, and I'm up first, so this is the only time I'll have to actually practice. I love the bandroom when no one else is there. It's like my own little world. Piper, Andrew, and I are all in band together. It's the only class that we have all together. We got lucky and recieved the same lunch period, so I have two classes to spend with my bestfriends. I pull out my audition piece and take my flute out of it's case. After tuning and warming up I begin to play, and all of my problems just melt away. I don't even notice anyone walk in, until a cold pair of hands cover my eyes.
"Guess who?" a deep voice asks, and I laugh, knowing it's Andrew.
"Hey, why are you here?"
"Well my first reason was to come down here to bake cupcakes, but you know, since they moved the invisible ovens, I think I'll practice," he says, with a chestshire cat grin on his face. I punch his arm, and go on with my practicing. After about five minutes, I noticed that Andrew wasn't practicing. I turned around to find him leaning against the wall, staring at me.
"What?" I asked, probably blushing fifty different shades of red.
"I've never heard you play before, well not all alone like that. You like dissolve into the music, and the passion that you have is visible when you're playing. It's fascinating, really," he says, walking towards me.
"Thank you?" I say, it coming out like a question. I must look like a total dope right now. I mean, I've had this huge crush on him since the seventh grade, when he moved here. It's really hard for me to hide, especially when I practically throw up every time he complements me. In the good way throw up. Not the gross sick way. Geez, now I'm rambling. I pick up my music stuff, and am about to head out the door, when I hear him call out, "Wait, Kayla! Please stay? I want someone to tell me if I'm playing these rythms correctly?" Oh, the things I do for this boy. I turn and walk over to his drum set.
"Show me what you've got."
~.~
"That was very nice, Kayla. I'd expect nothing less from a girl with such talent. Your scales were perfect, all of the eighth and sixteenth notes were steady as can be, and your dynamic level was perfection. The only thing I have to criticize is that when playing the high notes, you squeeked a little. Nothing detremental, and nothing that would cause you to lose first chair. Great job. You will be told your seating placement in tomorrows band period." Mr. Weasley says, and I thank him and walk out of the room. My hands are shaking, and I reach for a lock of my light brown hair. I begin to twirl it around my fingers, as I think about how else I could have messed up. I mean, they're not going to tell you everything you did wrong right away, that would ruin the point of the report they give you the day after auditions. I see Andrew standing in the hallway, so I run up behind him and tackle him to the ground. I almost have him pinned, but at the last second he flips over and pins me down.
"Say 'Andrew is the best'," he says, looking down at me.
"No."
"Say 'Andrew is the best friend ever, and the best looking guy in the whole world.'"
"Nuh uh." I stare into his deep blue eyes. Holy crap, you could get lost in those.
"I'm not getting up until you say one of the two," he says, smiling down at me.
"I'm not going to say it. Never, ever, never."
"Then the alternative is to smell my shoe."
"I'm not doing it," I say firmly. He lets up on his grip to take off his shoe, and I roll out from under him, and bolt down the hallway. Wow, track does come in handy.
"Get back here Kayla Marie!" he yells, chasing me down. Hes on the football team, and he's extraordinarily fast, but I hold the state record for the 100 meter dash. I'm faster. I turn the corner, and take a face plant into the ground. He comes around just in time to see me fall, and starts laughing like a hyena.
"You're a jerk!" I shout at him, throwing his shoe at his face. He catches it, and sobers up.
"You know you love me," he says, looking at me.
"No, I don't. You're mean."
"Come on, Kay, I was only kidding." He bought the act.
"Haha, gotcha!" I shout at him, jumping up and down, "You bought it, you bought it, you bought it!"
"No I didn't, I knew it was a game," he says, trying to hide the emebarrassment.
"Uh huh, sure you did," I say, walking out of the school. I didn't have a backpack today, since I had no homework, so I put my phone in the back pocket of my shorts. Suddenly, Andrew stops.
"Get on my back," he says.
"Excuse me?"
"Get on. I'll give you a piggy-back-ride," he looks at me with a look that said "duh". So I hopped on, and he began carrying me down the street to the park.
"Why are we going to the park?" I ask, holding onto his neck.
"To hangout, doofus." he replies. I slap his shoulder, and start laughing. He laughs along with me, and he doesn't put me down until we get to the swingset.
