I'm sitting on my bed reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, when my phone vibrates in my lap. I look at it and see that my friend Ashton texted me. He lives in southern Ohio, where as I live farther north. I met him at Cedar Point while I was with my friend Chase. She's actually the one who introduced us to each other. I thought he was super cute, and was too afraid to talk to him myself, so she played the game 'Hey have you met my friend Kayla?' and she ran away, leaving me stranded, and forcing me to talk to him. We ended up hitting it off, and I got his number. We've been talking ever since.
A: Hey what's up?
K: Nuthin, just reading as usual. Hbu?
A: Nm. Sitting here, doing nothing
K: My favorite thing to do. Lol
A: haha xD
K: lol so why'd you text me?
A: I don't really know, just wanted to talk to you
K: so you have nothing you want to talk about?
A: Nope
K: Well I got first chair in band
A: That's so awesome Kay
K: Thanks, I gtg
A: Ok, bye
K: Bye
I hear a noise downstairs, and slowly make my way to the end of the hall. I walked silently down the stairs, in hopes that I could see whoever it was from the bottom of the staircase. No such luck. I start to walk downstairs, with my cell phone in hand, ready to dial 911 if needed. Suddenly, Andrew and Piper jump out at me screaming Happy Birthday, and I scream at the top of my lungs.
"Holy crap, you guys scared me!" I shout, catching my breath.
"Haha, gotcha!" Piper says, wrapping me in a hug, "Happy Birthday, girly."
"Thanks," I say smiling.
"No hug for the other best friend?" Andrew says, holding out his arms. I walk over and give him a hug.
"Happy birthday, Kay Kay," he says, using the pet name he gave me. It makes me laugh.
"Thanks, Andy," I say, letting him go, and walking over to Piper.
"You are going to love your birthday surpise this year!" she squeals.
"What is it?"
"You'll have to find out. We leave in an hour for it, so start getting ready."
"Wait how do I dress?"
"Like nice but not too nice. Basically skinny jeans and a shirt other than a band tee." She says, walking out the door, "see you in an hour." I walk up to my room and look in my closet. I grab my black skinny jeans and set them on my bed. I leaf through my sweaters and pull out an off-the-shoulder eiffel tower sweater and pulled it on along with the jeans. I go over to my vanity and plug in my curling wand. I curl my long brown hair and apply light makeup. When I'm done, I grab my black combat boots and text Piper.
A: I'm ready where are u?
P: runnin late be there in five
A: where r we goin
P: you'll know when we get there
A: ugh muy difícil
P: lol we r here
I look out the window and see Piper's car in the driveway. I run out the door and down to the car. I slide into shotgun and Andrew is already there. "Hey guys," I say.
"Hey Kayla, you look really pretty," Andy says and I face forward to hide my blush.
"Hey Kay," Piper says, pulling out of the driveway.
"Now can I know where we are going?" I ask.
"Nope," she says, smirking. "You'll know in an hour and a half."
Ugh, that's so long.
