I sit on the swings in the park, while Andrew pushes me.
"Geez, Kay! Why are you making me push you, this is hard?!" He says, laughing.
"Are you calling me fat?" I ask, chuckling with him, and suddenly my phone starts to go off. He grabs it before I do and picks up.
"Kayla's phone," he says, "oh, uh huh, really? That's amazing. Yeah hang on she's right here. It's for you." he smiles at me.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Ms. Morgan. My name is Jeffrey Springs and I am the Headmaster at The Brooklyn School of Music. We were sent a tape of your band auditions by an anonymous source, and would love to have you at our school."
"Oh my gosh! I'm so thrilled, and I'd love to attend, but my family can't pay for it." I say, disappointed. This would have been a great opportunity, I mean, Brooklyn has one of the best music schools in the country.
"Ms. Green, we are prepared to offer you a full ride scholarship to our school. We've checked your grades, and they are spot on. As long as you keep up that ambition, you can go to this school for free." I could almost hear him smiling on the other end. It takes all my will not to scream and jump up and down.
"I'll have to talk to my parents," I say, calmy, "I will get back to you, Mr. Springs."
"Thank you, and we hope to see you at our academy." He says, and hangs up the phone.
"What was that about?" Andrew asks.
"It was the headmaster at The Brooklyn School of Music and they want me to go there on a full ride!"
"Oh my gosh Kayla that's huge!! Congrats!" he comes over and wraps me up in a hug. Once he lets go, he races to the only good swing there is, the one I was sitting in.
"Hey, get outta my swing," I exclaim, pushing his back. He wasn't expecting the blow and fell right out of the swing onto the dirt.
"Hey!" He said, as I took back my seat.
"Now why are you on the ground silly? It's muddy down there." He glares at me and I smile down at him. Then he stands up and sits down on my lap.
"What the heck!" I say, laughing.
"See this is why you don't kick me out of my seat." He looks back at me and our eyes lock. He's the first to break our little staring contest and we sit in comfortable silence.
"Umm, Andrew?"
"Yeah?"
"My legs are going numb. Can you get up for a sec?" I ask. He gets up and so do I.
"You can sit now, I'll take the ground." I say, smiling at him. I start to sit down but he grabs my hand and pulls me over to him. He pulls me into his lap and says "I don't want you to have to sit on the ground." I blush, and he laughs.
"Kidding!" He says, and shoves me in the ground.
"Jerk!" I say, giggling. I should have known he didn't really like me. Ugh, why can't I get over this stupid crush.
"Let's go to the school and see if the posted band seats yet," he says, holding out a hand to pull me up. I take it, and we walk back, laughing at jokes, and shoving each other, just like always.

We walk up to the doors and see the lists are posted. I stop dead in my tracks.
"I can't do this. What if I don't get first chair and they take away my scholarship?" I say, twirling my hair.
"Oh please! We both know you are the best flute player in the entire school. Get over your stupid nerves. You think too much" he grabs my hand and pulls me to the door. I gulp and start looking at the flute placements. They list them last chair at the top and first chair at the bottom. I start at the top and work my way down the list.
"Yes!! I get to play set in Jazz Band!!" Andrew screams and I high five him. I continue to look down the list.
"Hey Pipes!" Andrew says.
"Hey Andy," she says looking at the saxophone list, "dang it, I have to sit next to Jonah Parks this year! He's the most cocky person there is. He graduated last year and is here to help, and he always tells me how I should quit because I suck. At least I get first chair." She says.
"We'll find a way to shut him up," I say, smiling at her. I finish looking down the list and see that I got first chair too.
"Yes!! I got first chair!!" I say, jumping up and down. Andrew fist bumps me and Piper hugs me. I couldn't be happier right now.
