everything was black and white; the birds flying through the once blue sky, the darkened woodlands. even the beautiful fall leaves were blackened, making the scenery seem bland.

the atmosphere of the hikers changed as well, quiet and still. the group of six were walking alone, the leaves under their shoes cracking loudly.

a quiet squawk from a crow, and one of the males in the cluster rose his head towards the depressing sky, keeping his face solemn. the boy's eyes widened, letting out a sharp gasp. the others were startled by the sudden noise, and immediately looked up as well.

in the sky was a small helicopter. well, it looked like a helicopter, though it was too far away to hear the propellers. lance, the boy who first looked, began running. he didn't even know if it was headed their way or not, but he had to take the small chance that they had for rescuing.

lance knew not to yell out; they couldn't attract unwanted attention. that doesn't mean he didn't want too.

the others followed suit, an inch behind lance. their running became desperate. being stuck in a forest filled with human-eating monsters was not fun in the slightest, and they would do anything to be safe from the horrors of the outside.

lance held his tongue, almost crying out from the fact that they wouldn't be able to shout out to the helicopter for help. the group could very well be stuck if they didn't hear the heavy breathing, and that made lance sick.

the helicopter seemed to get farther and farther away, but the others were dedicated. they needed to, hope was the only way out of this living hell.

lance inhaled, as if about to cry out. just once, he could scream once. if it would save the group, then that was their only shot.

lance closed his eyes.

he breathed in, taking in the tainted oxygen.

he screamed. he screamed so loud the birds flew from the trees, so loud the others stopped their desperate running, so loud that there wasn't a small whistle of sound after the echo of his voice dissipated.

so loud, and yet the helicopter didn't turn around.

lance fell to his scraped up knees, eyes staring up at the helicopter disappearing in the distance. his mouth twitched, utter devastation beginning to show on his tired features.

their only chance. it was gone in a flash.

lance began to sob, and the others' heads bowed as their tears fell as well. the silence of the forest returned, the sorrow continuing once more.

and to think they were all happy once.

my first ever story! i hope i continue on with this, as i have always been fascinated by the concept of a zombie apocalypse. plus voltron and klance? this'll be a fun one for sure.

i'll try and upload constantly, though school is my first priority.

i'm hoping i'll get a view or two from the prologue, i'm pretty happy with it's outcome.

have a good day/night!
