"Your love comes in waves,
I toss and I turn and I fall and I rise,
It's sink or it's swim,
Getting caught up in your riptide."
....Adora closed her eyes as she leaned back into Will's body. It felt like the weekend when she had met him in secret, except there was no lying, and no secrets.
Her mother knew where they were and had said it was ok.
Wind blew her hair around their heads as Will wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his head on her shoulder.
They had two hours alone, they weren't allowed to leave Wheeler Falls, but they didn't need to.
They had decided to get some hot chips and eat at the beach, simple and easy.
"This is nice." Will said gently into her ear.
She nodded and smiled. "It's good. I'm not worried about looking over my shoulder, or being watched by family."
"You can still look over your shoulder. If you choose this one you'll only see me." Will tapped her right bicep and she bit her lip and turned towards his face.
"Hi." She felt giddy as their cheeks touched; his whiskery skin against her bare face was a strange comfort.
He gave her lips a gentle kiss and she twisted herself around between his legs and kissed back.
"I can't wait to dance with you tomorrow." Will chuckled as he pulled away from her kiss a few moments later.
"We could dance here." She looked from his lips to his eyes and tried to keep her breathing steady.
His eyes sparkled back at her and she hoped hers looked as smitten as his did.
"We could." He nodded. "But I'm enjoying just sitting here and cuddling you."
"Me too." She leaned back into him and moved her body back to face the ocean. The tide was on it's way out, pulling sand grains and broken shells back out into the rough waves."I think there's going to be a storm tonight." She looked at the horizon and put her hands on his, four hands now resting over her stomach.
"Those clouds do look pretty threatening." Will followed her gaze. "But how can you tell they're coming here and bringing a storm?"
"It's a certain feeling in the air. I don't know how to explain it, but as the storm front gets closer, the air feels thicker. You tune into an atmospheric change I guess. I love storms." Her voice faded off as she thought about standing on one of the cliffs in a storm. She had done it a lot since her father's death. Arms outstretched as if waiting for his embrace.
Will wrapped his arms around her tighter and took a deep breath.
"I think I can feel it. Like, there's more moisture in the air."
"Yea." Adora nodded against his head and smiled.
"It smells..." She listened to him take another sniff. "What does it smell like?" He whispered.
"Depth. To me it smells like depth. It's the only word I can think to use." Adora closed her eyes and took a sniff of the cold, salty air. "Yea, definitely a storm in those clouds."
"What time do you think it will hit?"
"It's pretty far off, probably some time tonight. We'll all be safe and warm in our cosy beds." Adora opened her eyes and turned her head to smile at him.
He smiled back. "I hope it only lasts overnight. Marti will be devastated if we don't get to go to the cove before the dance."
"She is pretty wrapped up and excited about that isn't she?" Adora chuckled.
"I don't remember her ever being as excited as she is for tomorrow. It's really cute." Will's voice had a laughter to it that melted Adora's heart.
She knew it was early; she logically tried to tell herself it was too soon to have fallen so hard for someone.
But even in the forest that afternoon when she'd run away from Gus she had known the connection with Will was strong.
The words were in her mouth, stuck in her throat, they wanted to be said but she kept trying to swallow them back.
It's too early, way too soon.
"Will..."
'No, don't say it! It'll ruin everything.'
"Yea?" His voice was so gentle, so strong and warming.
"I really, really like you." Her words trembled and he straightened up and met her face.
"I really like you too." He had a confused frown on his forehead.
"Maybe too much. Too soon, you know?"
What was she doing?
He looked down at the sand around them. "I do. It's awkward, because of everything that's happened, and really unexpected. It actually kind of scares me a bit." His eyes looked back up into hers and she felt her breath escape her body.
For a few moments she couldn't breathe.
Gus was a silly, summer crush.
This was so much stronger, so much deeper than that. This was undeniably taking control of her.
She bit her bottom lip, trying to keep her mouth closed. 'I think I love you.' Her head whispered.
'I'm definitely falling in love with you.'
"Me too." She finally whispered.
