"I feel you everywhere,
And when it rains,
You're in the air,
Touched by the sight like a memory."
....
Will sighed heavily in comfort as he pulled his blankets up to him chin. Marti was heading away from them, her face was everywhere and he was home.
The pain medication left him drowsy most of the afternoon, and the night time dose was slightly sedated to help him sleep.
He'd had a short and slurry phone call with Adora before turning into his pillows and closing his eyes.
It was over.
Tom was innocent, and always had been and now everyone knew the stalking murderer was Marti there was no way she'd stay on the run for long.
Her face was everywhere.
He groaned as his thoughts broke up into darkness and he felt his body sag into his mattress.
The sharp stroke pulled him from sleep and he sat up in his bed and put a hand to his throat.
He felt something warm bubbling in a line and he used his other hand to turn on the bedside lamp.
His face turned cold as his breath caught in his chest.
Marti sneered at him in the dim light, holding one of the kitchen knives in her hand.
"Where's your phone, Will?" She whispered as he felt his body starting to tremble. He didn't need to answer as her hand found the phone on its charging dock near the lamp. "We're going for a little trip." She held the knife closer to his face. "Or that little scratch you're holding with turn into a bloody gash. Get up."
"I-I can't. You broke my leg, Marti." He kept waiting to wake up as she flicked the covers off and started to pull him from his bed.
"I saw you standing earlier, get up." She snarled and slashed the knife towards his arm.
His movements were too slow to avoid the blade slicing through his bicep, but he was lucky that was all it had managed to do.
He stumbled to his feet as Marti held his arm and put his phone into her pocket. "If you make a noise, Will, I am going to kill whoever comes out. I don't care who it is."
He felt sick as he tried to walk with her as his crutch. The limping made them slow as they moved into the kitchen and Marti took the Pajero keys from the bench.
"What are you doing?" He managed.
She glared at him and squeezed her fingers around his cut arm.
He grunted instead of cried out, knowing that if she had already tried to kill him, she meant what she had said about anyone he alerted.
He felt sick from pain and fear.
Last time he'd been alone with his little sister, he'd narrowly survived; something told him tonight he might not be so lucky.
"Get in, and shut-up." She opened the passenger door and pushed him into the car. He knocked his cast and yelped in pain.
He felt the knife stab into his thigh above the cast and clenched his teeth to avoid making another sound.
She got into the driver's side and started driving.
He held a hand over the stab in his leg without realising immediately where they were going.
When he looked up from his throbbing leg he dry-wretched.
"Not Adora's..." He looked at Marti with a pained expression and watched her beautiful face twist with ugly anger.
"She tried to kill us. She tried to kill me, after all I did for her." Marti's knuckles went white on the steering wheel and the handle of the knife.
Rain pelted down with such suddenness that Will jerked in the seat and his breath turned into gasps.
"You killed Liss before this didn't you? Are you going to leave a fake note for us?" He squeezed his eyes shut and tried to breathe through the throbbing in his leg.
"Maybe. I haven't decided yet." Marti answered simply.
She turned onto the long, gravel driveway to the Escape and Will felt his stomach knotting.
"You won't be able to get in you know?" He said.
Marti pulled up by the back yard and looked at him with a crooked smile. "I don't need to. Come on." She got out of the car and came round to his side and pulled him down from the seat. "Walk." She growled as the rain slicked his hair to his face.
He felt like the drops were pins on his bare skin as he limped and stumbled beside her in the dark.
She knew where she wanted to go, but Will had no idea about where they were headed, except that it was beyond the main house.
