One Year LaterThere was an anxious wait filling the students of Derry Middle School. They waited for the last few minutes before they would leave the school for three months, celebrating the freedom of summer vacation. No more homework and tests for three months and every student dreamed of the day when summer would come to give themselves the freedom they deserve. In Derry, summer was beautiful with the warm weather and overflowing touch of green from the trees and grass. However, as the kids sat in their desks for the last few minutes, they would almost taste summer vacation as seconds passed.
In Bill Denbrough's poetry class, it felt like the minutes were hours as they ticked by. His mind so bored by the lecture the teacher, Mr. Haddock, had given to them about reading more poetry and books in the summer so that they wouldn't be dumb by the time they had gotten back into school. However, Bill didn't care about the boring class. All he cared about was summer break and spending the entire time he had with Will and the others.
Mr. Haddock's poetry class was just like any English classroom. It had so many posters about Shakespeare and the quotes in the many plays that it made everyone not want to see them. The windows were placed on the left side of the wall, letting in the warm air from outside. The most annoying thing about being in school at the end was the annoying fan that was placed in the middle of the room so that only the kids in the front had the coolest of air. The entire place smelled of sweat and hairspray, which was known by Mr. Haddock since he loved his hairspray.
As the time ticked to two-fifty-five, he felt like this class would take forever before the bell would go off. Bill had been waiting about forty minutes for summer vacation to begin and it felt like it had been a century since. The students who all sat around in his class didn't seem too happy about the wait either, checking the clock every so often and sighing as their teacher continued going.
However, as Bill continued to be bored, someone gave him a tap on the shoulder. He jumped, turning around to see it was another student in his class. He looked very bored as he gave out a paper note to Bill. Bill, confused, took it and placed it on his desk. The note was a folded piece of paper with the words "Bill" on the front of the note.
Curious, he opened the note, seeing the words written on it. It was very short and written neatly, but it made Bill smile. It wrote:
Hey Bill!
You excited for summer vacation?
This class is so boring I want to leave the classroom.
W.B.
Bill smiled, knowing directly who it was. It was Will Byers. Will was everything to Bill. Will was his greatest friend, the one person he would never want to leave alone with. Ever since Neibolt when both boys saved each other countless times, they had gotten close. He could even say that he loved him, as a friend of course, but sometimes he felt things that he couldn't really talk about. Anyways, he did not know what he could go without Will because without him, he would have probably died.
