Black Magician

My eyes flashed open. There was red and black everywhere. At that moment, I knew. We were on a deserted island, and there was only one place that came to mind – Ishuella. It was isolated island with nothing but dead trees and plants. No blue sky, barely any color. It was a dead place.

“Celestial?” Panicked, I sat up. Where was my sister? Had she teleported somewhere else on the island? I hoped so.

Recalling the events that happened, a question popped in mind. What happened to the black thing? I paused, catching my breath. Where did it go? Was it somewhere in hiding? Was it after someone in particular, like the grey haired boy? Most of all, what did it want? Someone had to be controlling it. But for what reason?

I’ve got to protect the students.

Dragging myself up, I sighed. Fortunately, I’d worn a hoodie so no one saw my face. Not even the blonde haired boy. That was a good thing, for if I appeared in front of them, no one could have really traced back to me. No one had noticed Celestial or I back at the Tower, anyway.

Boom! A monstrous cry rang in the air as bones cracked.

My ears perked up at the sounds. What the heck was that? It sounded like a magician taking down its foe. But who could it have been?

I ran towards the source of the sound. Still keeping my hoodie over my head, I dashed through the trees and stopped to a halt when I saw a young man sitting upon a demon. The demon was dead, and I could tell that the young man had done it.

I then realized that he was the magician I had seen batting the black thing. He wasn’t a weak magician, either. Seeing all of the demons scattered around him, I knew that he had to be either a rank one or rank two. He was a powerful magician for his appearance. Rather, his age, however old he was.

Hiding behind one of the dead trees, I narrowed my eyes. He was speaking to a purple orb, which was when I realized that it was a communication orb. Suddenly, he stood up, and demons emerged from the trees. They growled and snarled.

“The teleported students are in danger,” he said, putting on his backpack. The demons charged at him as he glanced back, “especially… Lidusis.” A black rod of darkness appeared in his hands. He held it behind him and flung it forward, stabbing the demon before him. It screamed and he pulled his rod back, which caused the demon to fall back and crash several meters away from him.

            Who is he, exactly?

“So first,” he said to the whoever he was talking to in the orb, “I’m going to find Lidusis and others and protect them.” Another demon growled. He continued, “And since things turned out like this… Master needs to do something from his side.” The demon charged. “The client duchess should also…” The magician teleported and appeared on top of the demon. “…Be informed of this situation. And so should Helios,” he finished.

The demon, alert, realized too late. I shut my eyes and heard cracks and gruesome sounds. How deadly and vile… I didn’t think he was a rank two anymore. I was certain that he was a rank one magician. However, he wasn’t one of the Tower’s magicians… Just who was he?

The magician said a few more words and sat on another dead demon. He cupped his chin, probably thinking.

“Okay. We got it,” a voice said from the orb. “We’ll do everything we can from this side. Don’t go overboard—”
