Piper breathed in deeply. "That fresh ocean is really good".
Piper looked happier. She had her hair tied up and looked effortlessly gorgeous. We sat down on the beach where we were last time. I was happy Piper was starting to come to terms with The loss of Jason.
"Have you got any news from the outside world" I asked.
"Wait let me ask questions first". I nodded and started to fiddle with the coral hanging around my neck.
"So what have you been doing Anna?"
"I have been cleaning, walking, reading, Oh and I learning how to surf".
"You got over you ocean fear I'm so proud Queen".
"I wasn't that scared of the ocean" I mumbled.
Piper laughed. "What will it be next, you're gonna adopt a pet tarantula now?"
"Bleh spiders are gross. But I have adopted an injured owl, I plan to haven't named it but I plan to release it once it has fledging feather".
"So cute, I will help you pick a name, and where did you get the cute necklace?"
Piper's tanned finger curled around the coral pendant, it's stunning white with small undertones of pink and blue.
"It's from a friend"
Piper shot me a quizzical look. "Who is this friends Anna".
"So can you tell me what messages I have from the outside world" I averted the conversation with skill.
Piper rolled her multicoloured eyes. "You brother wanted me to tell you that they miss you and that the smallest one, what's his name, has lost a tooth".
"Hopefully bobby got lots of tooth fairy money".
"Once I got a twenty dollar bill for a tooth, my dad panicked because he forgot about the under the pillow so he just said the tooth fairy got confused and left it in his wallet, I was a gullible kid."
"Weren't we wall pipes" I clapped her on the shoulder.
"Leo says that the art club room has fixed the burns in the floor so no more cones around the black spot. You stepmom says she misses you. Hazel and Frank send bear hugs and cheek kisses from Canada and that Frank Gran is still the harsh old statue she has always been."
"All good things".
Piper and I talked as we walked back to my cabin.
"Oh and Luke says he misses you and can't wait till you come back, he wants to catch up".
I felt a sink hole open in my gut. My hands reached fro the coral pendant.
"Now let's see this Owl of your Anna".
