The captain of the team had walked over to me about halfway through practice.
He bent down and asked me to join in if I wanted to. I decided I might as well show them that I am terrible at spiking.

I got up and made my way onto the court. The sun left shadow spots on the wooden floor that held my silhouette as I walked through them.
Everyone was watching me and I definitely didn't like it.

Daichi set me upfront, which for me was new territory. Their ace sat out so I could take the spot of the left-wing. Hinata was on the other side on the setter. He was looking rather exhilarated as his amber hair bounced atop his head when he jumped.

"Right now we're just going to practice spiking. Don't be afraid to make a move if Kageyama sets to you," Daichi slowly spoke to me.
I nodded, letting him know I understood.
The other side served over to us and the ball made his way to Kageyama.
He set to me, probably so he could see what I'm like.
I jumped and spiked it, it made it over, it just went out.
"Sorry," I told him.
"It's okay"

After a couple of horrible spikes, Daichi noticed how distraught I was. There weren't even any blockers yet. My sense of security was off now. People could tell I wasn't good.

"How about you do a serve for us. Maybe that will make you more comfortable," Daichi offered the ball to me with his other hand on my shoulder.
I nodded and headed to the back to serve.
This I could do. I taught myself how to serve for the most part. They didn't need to know this fact, however.

I threw the ball up and ran at it, jumping up and hitting it.
I only then when it was in the air did I realize I had hit it with my left hand.
The ball went over and was in play. It made its way to Hinata's hands who spiked it down.
"I'm sorry," I told them, I ran one of my hands through my hair. My cheeks felt warm from my embarrassment.

"Why?" Hinata asked, "it was a good serve."
"No, I used my left hand I apologize."
Hinata tilted his head, his eyebrows curved.

Daichi handed me a ball.
"Serve again. You did great."
I stood with it in my hands, a sickly feeling rose in my chest. Don't use your left. You know you aren't supposed to.
I threw the ball into the air again, jumping up and hitting it, this time with my right.
The ball went in to play and I watched as they handled it going between the sides of the court.

Daichi handed me another ball to serve.
People seemed to call out to me, but I couldn't hear it. I was so used to my friend giving me a thumbs up. A quick way to tell me to do a good serve. Not like it was that important. I've never served in a real game before.
