Dusting down her dress and taking a deep breath, Y/N hesitated once more. She was about to ask her dying father if she could help their sworn enemies. How did I get myself into this mess, she wondered. Slowly, she cracked open the door to her father's study. King Artemis was sat slumped over in his chair, with his eyes closed, however, they fluttered open when he sensed his daughter's presence.
'Father, I have need of you,' she said in a shaky voice.
'You seem tense, my dear daughter. Whatever is the matter?' He whispered slowly. The poor man was struggling to get his words out.
'I must ask you something... important.' Y/N's head lowered in shame. She already felt guilty and she hadn't even asked yet. 'It concerns those visitors that came by yesterday.'
'Where are these visitors from?' The king queried.
'...Hyrule.'
The king's eyes shot open.
'HYRULE?!' He demanded, his frail voice suddenly gone. 'They already foiled my plan to become king in the past! Do they want to take this opportunity away from you too?! I shall pass on soon, I can sense it, however, this makes me concerned for your future reign, Y/N!'
'No father, it's not like that. Please sit down, you're weak-,'
'No! I cannot sit down! I must confront these visitors!'
'GUARDS!' Y/N screamed, not knowing what else to do in that moment.
As two guards came rushing to her aide, she pointed towards a struggling King Artemis who looked as though he was about to stumble over. They got the message, and guided him back to his chair.
After the guards left, Y/N resumed talking. 'Your brother is dead. He was killed by Calamity Ganon.'
'I do not pity my brother in the slightest.' Her father said coldly. 'In fact, it comforts me to know that his power did not prove useful. He wasn't the special chosen one that he was said to be, after all.'
'I understand your anger, father.' Y/N attempted to justify her next question. 'But my cousin Princess Zelda has requested our help in sealing away Calamity Ganon. She believes I have the blood of Goddess Hylia.'
'Are you seriously requesting permission to assist the enemy?' The king asked worriedly.
Y/N sighed. This was just the reaction she had expected. 'Zelda isn't the enemy. I know that in the past you and King Rhoam had your... differences.... to put it mildly... but they're family. And I don't want to turn my back on them whilst they're in danger.'
'I'm sorry to crash your little endeavour, Y/N, but the answer is no. When I'm dead, you can do whatever you want. But whilst I'm alive, that is not happening.'
~~~~~
'How did it go?' Urbosa asked as Y/N returned to the group.
She didn't need to speak. The look of disdain on her face said it all. She shook her head.
'So he won't allow you to assist us?' Zelda asked, her head also hanging.
'He said once he's dead I can do whatever I want... but that wouldn't feel right either.' Y/N said.
'So that's it then? Should we gather our things?' Mipha asked.
'Hold on a second!' Revali interrupted. 'Perhaps there is another way this can be settled. Zelda, May I speak with you alone please?'
With their newfound compromise in place, Princess Y/N and Princess Zelda headed towards King Artemis' study once more.
