The other patients and I have grown rather close. Adalie and I are the only girls. She has bright red hair, green eyes, and she is short. She doesn't even know how pretty she is.

She is patient three.

Adalie and I walk to the med counter together. The nurse hands me a series of pills. I take the anti-radiation pill, but slip the rest under my tongue. Finally we are excused to go to lunch. The foul taste of the dissolving pills coats my tongue. Quickly, I run into the washroom and spit them out. I meet Adalie outside the door, we continue towards the cafeteria.

John and Jillian are quick to join us. John has long dark brown hair. He has a muscular build and is fairly tall. He is my best friend. He embraces me in a warm hug.

"You look good Chloe." He says.

"It's a wonder what showers can do." I smirk. John puts his arm around my torso, we continue to walk.

After a series of doors and key cards, we reach the cafeteria. I grab a tray, scoop eggs, bacon and toast on it. Adalie takes the seat next to me. John, the seat acrossed. Suddenly, an announcement echoes over the intercom.

"Patient Two, please report to the laboratory for immediate analysis."

John looks at me, an annoyed expression taking his normally playful face. My eyes follow him until an escort takes him out of my sight. We eat in silence until Adalie breaks it.

"It is so obvious you two are meant for each other, why don't you get with him? Adalie exclaims.

"First of all, he's like a brother to me, not to mention, he is two years older." I respond, not bothering to look at her. She is so childish sometimes. Her and Thomas are the perfect pair, he is so laid back and easy-going. A thought shot through my mind. "Has anyone seen Tommy? I haven't see him all day."

Jillian takes John's empty seat across from me. "Good point Chloe, I haven't see him since last night." Jillian recalls.

A worried expression covers Adalie's face.

"What is it?" I ask.

"W-we got into an argument.. Nothing too serious, nothing worth getting punished for staying in his chambers all day."

"Adalie this is not your fault. Think about it, Thomas got called into the laboratory last night." I try to comfort her.

"The laboratory? I thought that was shut down years ago." Jillian joins in.

"It was. I don't think Thomas ever made it back to his chambers."

A sheer pain of agonizing panic floods my thoughts.

John...
