I run down the hallway. I pass the security room when the sprinklers start to shower cold water. I run around the corner and peek around.
The door to the security room opens. A man exits the room and runs down the hallway towards the receptionists desk. I slip into the room and scan the screens for the man. He is still running down the hall.
I go into the recording library and look for the camera outside my room. The video fast forwards until I see a man enter. I slow the footage down and rewind it.
I stare at the man. It was him all along? I remember him watching me that day before the interview. He was the guard that I recognized.
I look at the live footage and see the security guard has reached the fire. Then, I check the laboratory.
All is the same. I stare for a minute, waiting for them to break free of the glass. But they don't. I put the cameras back on the entrances of the hospital and leave the room. Untouched.
I begin to head back for my room when I realize the sprinklers stop. Then I begin to run. When I am finally back in the safety of my chambers I feel my pockets for the sticky note.
It is not there.
If anyone finds that note they will know D is helping me and that I know about the laboratory. I need to find that sticky note.
I get up from my bed and walk towards the door. Suddenly the door jerks shut and locks me inside.
An announcement blares over the intercom:
"Sorry if there is an inconvenience, you are all to remain in your rooms. This is for your safety, there is a threat in this hospital. I am reminding you, any acts of violence will cause a permanent ban from this hospital. We will have a roll call before breakfast, other than that there are no changes in tomorrows schedule."
I sigh in relief. They are looking outside the rooms for me. I wait in anticipation for 30 minutes. There is no way I am getting anymore sleep tonight.
I lay down on my bed and begin to count the bricks on the wall. A knock sounds at the door.
I freeze. This is it.. They found me.
A piece of paper slides under the door. I have never been so relieved in my life. I grab it and use the little light shown under the door to read it.
Chloe, I see you've figured out who I am. Good job! I could have told you in the notes but I couldn't risk someone finding one of them. This is my last note to you. By the way, next time you go into the security room, light a piece of paper on fire, or go rummaging through the staff lounge. Maybe delete the surveillance footage. Don't worry, I did that part for you. Now, you need to be ready for things to move very quickly. Tomorrow, at breakfast, come find me. -D
I take the piece of paper and rip it into 1000 shreds. Then I throw them into the toilet and flush them down, erasing all of the evidence.
I am leaving tomorrow.
Authors Thoughts:
Hey! Thanks so much for reading this chapter, I figured I would post two today. I'm feeling a little generous. Haha!
I know it was a short chapter, but the next few get interesting so you'll have to hold your breath!
So so much love - Samantha
