the hunt

The next few of days were better than I could've imagined. Me and Clary were besties, Izzy ceased her teasing (thank god), Magnus and me drank a bit too much the one time, met the wolf pack of Brooklyn thanks to Simon who has gotten me into Harry Potter and me and Sebastian haven't said a word to each other after that.
Right now I'm preparing for a demon hunt, the vampires said that an unknown demon has been killing mundanes so it seems like a simple find and kill job.

"So you know the weak spot on a demon?"

"Yes"

"And just remember try and get behind it you'll have a better chance of killing it with less damage"

"Jace I'm perfectly capable of killing a demon I've been through worse" he shut up then as he remembered the time I almost died.

"I know I just dont want that to happen again, I dont know what I would do if you got hurt?"

"That sounded really cheesy but I understand your worry and I'll be fine i promise" i reassured him and started heading towards the door. I almost made it out when...

"Cause I'm awesome I'm gonna send someone to keep an eye on you and will intervene if things go south" I groaned at what he said but curious as to who he will send. Hoping to lose them I ran out of the institute and started the hunt.

Jace POV

I walked around the institute to see who I could send after her. I hate doing this but I cant lose my sister, she's gonna kill me later. I walked past the gardens to find Clary and Sebastian talking and if being the overprotective brother isn't enough I get to be a jealous boyfriend on top of that. I really want to punch his face so hard but an idea came to me, I get to keep him away from Clary and send someone to watch my sister man I'm a genius, like how do they put it 'killing two birds with one stone. I walked over to them and they turned their attention towards me.

"Sebastian would it be alright if I ask you to watch over my sister while she is on a hunt" i see him become more interested and stood up immediately, please say he doesn't have a thing for my sister.

"Yes I will um where is she or where is going right now?"

"She's not long left and she'll be a few blocks from the hotel Demort, just make sure she's ok and only intervene if something goes wrong" he nods and starts to leave but grab his arm as I still dont trust him yet.
"Dont even think of trying anything with her ya here me" I warned him. He didn't even flinch at my tone and walked off. I went and sat next to Clary who had that look on her face.

"Yeah i know I know but i still dont trust him and did you see his reaction when I mentioned Y/n"

"Let's just hope he doesn't have to do anything and that he'll prove himself trustworthy" she was right, I relaxed a bit before getting up and leaving for a hunt myself.

Y/n POV

Ok maybe I should've listened to my brother, this demon is stronger than what it should be it makes me think it's a greater demon. It slams me against the wall and throws me halfway down the alley, that's gonna hurt later. I try to lunge but it scratches my leg and I fall to the floor. Damn it. I hear someone shout and it takes it attention off me giving me the opportunity to stab it in the back and it disappears back to whence it came. I try to move forward but my leg gives out and I collapse to the floor. I hear footsteps coming towards me, I look up to see Sebastian? Please dont tell me Jace sent him. I sat up and pulled my stele out and activated my healing rune, this should do me until I get back.

"Need help?" He offeres me a hand, God that accent.

"I'm fine" I ignore him and stand up leaning against the wall.

"Dont tell me Jace sent you?"

"Uh yeah he did" I groaned and started walking well limping back to the institute. I didn't get far before I fell again except this time a pair of arms caught me. I got back on my feet and glared at him.

"I said I'm fine, I dont need your help" he didn't listen and picked me up and carried me. Good thing we're glamoured otherwise they would've heard me scream from a few blocks at least.

"PUT ME DOWN NOW!!! I SAID I DONT NEED YOUR HELP PUT ME DOWN!!!!!!!" I hit his chest and tried to kick out causing me to wince in pain. Noticing my reaction he put me down and examined my leg, he tore the sleeve of my shirt and used it as a bandage. I didnt complain and watched his every move almost entranced by him, he finished and looked up our eyes meeting.  Realising I was staring i broke the contact and cleared my throat.

"We should um we should get back, Jace will probably be worried right now"

"Uh yeah of course, he uh he does seem quite overprotective" he picked me up again and carried on walking, this time I didn't scream.

We got back to the institute and the first person who came up to us was, guess who? Jace. He looked at my bandaged leg and then Sebastian who was still holding me. Jace must've given him a glare, as he put me down gently and helped me get to my brother. He picked me up and took me to my room, he set me down on the bed and got out the medical kit.

"Jace stop worrying please it was just a scratch" I tried to calm him but that didnt work.

"That is not just a scratch Y/n it was made by a demon and the healing tune dont do shit for it so I have a right to worry" he started to disinfect it like mundanes do with alcohol but this stuff is much stronger and we shadowhunters can just about deal with it.

"If Sebastian wasnt there it could've been worse so thank you for sending him"

"That's not enough, I should've been there to help you and I dont trust Sebastian so I didnt know what he was going to do and I wouldn't have been able to save you as it is my job as your brother to protect you and I failed that today, You could've died" he was almost crying by the end but as Herondales do he didnt let the tears fall. He finished fixing my leg in silence and left, most likely to train to relieve his emotions. I sat in my room waiting for my leg to heal up enough to start walking. After a couple of hours there was a knock at the door.

"Come in" the door opened and the blonde englishman stepped in his face trying to hide the amount of concern.

"I was just checking up on you, make sure your alriht"

"Yeah Jace fixed me up and I'll be back to normal in no time" he gave a small nod before heading towards the door.

"Wait" he stopped and took a couple of steps closer to my bed.
"I just wanted to say thank you for helping me earlier and sorry for the screaming"

"Its fine, if I didn't do anything your brother would have my head"

"Well I'll make sure to put in a good word and hopefully your head shall remain on your shoulders" we laughed a bit at that. He was about to speak when Clary and Izzy burst through the door. They looked from me to Sebastian and Izzy raised an eyebrow.

"I shall leave you girls to it then uh goodnight Y/n" he quickly said before rushing out.

"So tell us everything" Iz demanded

"I'm fine thanks for asking"

"I heard that mr new guy was your knight I  shining armour today" Clary smiled. I unknowingly blushed at her words and the girls shrieked and you wonder why I've never been involved with boys.

The girls left an hour later and I could finally get to sleep but one thing kept bugging my mind and I couldnt get him out of it.
