Temperance
"Take my gun Temperance."
The words coming from Emaline shocks me. She hands me the gun with her shaky hand.
"Hide it so he won't see." She whispers.
I lift my hoodie and quickly put the gun in my waistband, half of it sticking out.
"Fuck I promised Alec and the guys that I wouldn't let anything happen to you." She whispers, mostly to herself.
I pull my hoodie back down and stand beside Emaline, who looks petrified as the truck pulls up.
The truck stops, and a man steps out. He walks around until we can fully see him.
He has several ear piercings. He is tan-ish... very ish. His hair is flipped, and he looks like he hasn't shaved in a few days.
"Ah, Emaline. I've missed you, baby." He smiles at Emaline, but even I can see something cold in his smile.
"What do you want, TJ?" She asks. I can tell she is scared. I hear the faint quiver in her voice, like how I get when I have to see my father.
He looks at me and cocks his head to the side.
"This your new friend?"
"Leave us alone."
"When are you coming back?" Fear struck me, making my legs tremble when he takes a step closer to her.
"I'm not coming back." She takes a step back, bringing me along.
He lunges at her and grabs her by her hair. Making it to where she is bending backward with her hair bunched in his hand.
"You're coming back with me." He whispers to her, pulling her hair harder.
I've dealt with this shit my whole life. I'm not gonna let her go back into that hell hole.
I lift the bottom of my hoodie and grab the gun out of my waistband.
I extend it away from my body and point it at the man.
He laughs at my attempt to try to scare him, automatically making me feel weaker.
"Do you even know how to shoot that?" He asks with a big grin plastered across his face.
I don't answer.
"She knows how to shoot." Emaline lies.
"Who taught her?"
"Her boyfriend is a leader of a gang. Obviously, she would know how to." Emaline grumbles.
I can't tell If she actually thinks we are dating or If she knows we aren't.
"She looks too innocent."
