Temperance

Dear mom,

It's been one year since.... since they died. I've been going to therapy every Monday. I still live in the mansion. It's my home. And I'm still trying to get Alec's dad to like me. Everyone else does, at least. I have to get through to him.

Alec and I are engaged and hoping to start a family in the future... a few years into the future since I'm only eighteen and a half... but who's counting?. He still runs the gang, and I'm going to college to be a counselor. A school counselor so I can help out kids who have been mistreated like me.

I still have nightmares—a lot of them. I have PTSD and get severe panic attacks every once in a while. We did get a dog, though. Roscoe. A mini Aussie.

Zander moved on from Emaline... well, not really. He tries to go out and date. But it never works out. Her death really took a toll on him. Zander and I visit her grave twice a month. With Alec's guards with us, of course. So we don't die.

I really miss you. I think about you every day. I haven't been to your grave in a while. It's been so hard. But I will start coming more. To talk to you. I hope you're ok with it?

Vicki and Austin are in jail for ten years, which sounds very little to me. Erin somehow got away with everything, along with the guy that bought me. His name is apparently Johnson, and he owns a small gang. Erin and Johnson disappeared a few months ago. We are unable to locate them.

I know that my father did me wrong. I know that you wouldn't forgive him for what he did to me. But I forgive him. He was torn up and broken. If he's up in heaven with you.. it would be surprising. He might be in hell. But if he is up there with you. Don't be too hard on him. He might deserve it. But... I don't know.

I love you, mom. So much. It's been hard without you. If you were still alive, then it would be different. It would have turned out differently. I don't even know if I'd be with Alec right now.

But I love you so much. I hope you don't watch when Alec and I do the nasties. But I do hope you watch our good moments. I know you're always looking down on me.

Love, your daughter, Temperance

I sigh and fold the note up. I wipe away a tear as Alec comes up to kiss my cheek.

"Ready to go?" He asks as the cold wind blows through my hair, bringing chills throughout my body.

I place the note under a bouquet. Red roses. They were her favorite. I place them on top of my mother's grave, which I am sitting on. It might be disrespectful to sit on a grave. But this is how I feel close to her.

I looked up at Alec as he held his hand out to help me get up. I took it, and he pulled me up. We walked and in hand to the car.

"You are beautiful." He told me. I blushed as I sat down in the car. "You tell me this one hundred times a day."

"Do you not want me to speak the truth?" He bends down and pecks my lips.

"You're so full of it," I tell him as he closes the door. He walks around to the driver's side and sits down. He starts the car and looks at me.

"Full of love for you."

I roll my eyes as a smile grows on my face. My cheeks getting pinker by the millisecond.

"Let's go home, Flower."
