Avaa POV

"Morning Dr. Scott, I have a few messages for you."

"Thank you Calista, how are you this morning?"

"Doing well..."

She was mid sentence when I saw JJ and my first patient exiting the elevator. I greeted JJ and told Calista that we'd speak later and went to my office to prepare for my first session. I pulled out the patient file and cleaned up a little, but I still had a few minutes before 11, so I sat at my desk and just relaxed. I listened to the cars riding on the street and felt the air blow on my face. I love a good fall day when all the leaves are turning or falling and the sun is out, but its not hot because of the cool breeze, and today was exactly that. I closed my eyes to get the full effect of the day and those few minutes flew by in what felt like seconds. I opened my eyes again and it was 10:56, so I decided to go get my patient. I paged Calista at the front desk and asked her to send my 11 o'clock in and not long after, I heard a knock.

"Come in" I said, rising from my seat.

"Hey Doctor Scott."

"Good morning Sadie," I said ushering her to the couch, "how are you feeling this morning?"

"Um I'm ok."

"Have you been tracking your emotions like we talked about last week?"

"I have actually and I think you'll be quite proud of me. I was able to visit his grave over the weekend."

Sadie had lost her son 7 months ago from SIDS and she started seeing my almost immediately after. When she first started seeing me, it was on a daily basis and within a few visits, she was diagnosed with depression. We had been talking about visiting her son's grave for a while, but up until this visit, it aired on the hypothetical side.

"I am very proud of you Sadie, that's tremendous progress!" I said then began to propose next steps and she seemed to respond to them well. I also looked through her emotions journal and from her last visit until now, she seems to be experiencing more good days than bad, which is extremely good. Our session lasted for 2 hours and she'd set goals to achieve in the next month, even coming up with a few on her own. We ended on a very positive note and I felt that we could step it up and meet biweekly, instead of weekly. So, I instructed her to make her next appointment for 2 weeks from today and said goodbye. I sat back down at my desk as my stomach growled at me and I realized I didn't eat my food. I'd put it in the fridge before Sadie's session, so I ran to grab it and eat it before my next appointment came. I heated it up again and went back to my office to stuff my face as quickly as possible.

"Dr. Scott, your 1:15 is here."

Calista's voice rang through my office phone before I got even one bite in. Fuck. I had to wrap it up and throw a fake smile on my face.

"Ok send them in."

My stomach growled again, "I know y'all are hungry, mama's hungry too." I whispered to my belly before my next patient came in. My door opened and in walked one of my favorite patients, Henry. He was a 18 year old boy that had a severe ornithophobia, otherwise known as a phobia of birds and very little control over what he says.

"Hi Henry," I said as he strutted through my door. He always walked around like he was hot shit and I loved it. I saw Henry's mom, Ida, in the waiting room, so I waved and she waved back. I closed the door behind him and sat in my comfortable chair.

"Hey Dr. Scott, do you know you're getting fat?"

I couldn't help but laugh at his bluntness. "Yes Henry, I do know that, it's because I'm pregnant."
