Avaa POV
We drove to my job with music playing, but otherwise in a comfortable silence.
"Oh we didn't have our morning prayer" Khalil reminded me while turning down the radio.
"You're absolutely right, do you want to pray or want me to do it?" I asked
"You can do it." He said like I knew he would. Although we've both committed ourselves to praying in the morning, he's yet to do be the one to actually pray. Before I got too deep into my thoughts, he reached over to grab my hand and I started my prayer.
Heavenly father, I thank you for waking us both up this morning- even with the very hectic night we had. I thank you for our babies and for bringing Khalil to me. Lord, I pray that we both have positive and prosperous days. I pray that no hurt, harm, or danger comes upon us or any of our loved ones and that I continue to have a healthy pregnancy and have a healthy delivery. I want to speak life over my babies, all our friends and family, and any situations going on in our lives right now . In your name, we pray...Amen.
"Amen," he added and unclasped our hands. The rest of the way there, we made light conversation about anything we could think of and soon we were pulling up to my job. "Alright babe, I'll be here by 2:30 so we can get to the class."
"Oh I forgot my change of clothes at home, you think you could stop by the house and grab em?"
"Yeah I got you, have a good day."
"You too, see you later baby love you." I opened my door to get out, but Khalil stopped me, "What? No kiss for a nigga?" he said making me smirk a little. I turned around to give him a quick kiss and he gave my belly a few rubs before sending me on my way.
"Love you too mamas!" he called out as I walked into my office building. He waited there until I got inside, and then drove off. I caught the elevator up to my floor and got my thoughts together for my first appointment of the day. My first patients were in the waiting room, so I just called them back- it was Mr. and Mrs. Reed.
"Morning guys." I said with a smile.
"Hey Dr. Scott. Wow you've grown since the last time we were here! How far along are you?"
I placed my hand on my belly and my smile grew, "21 weeks, I'm having triplets."
"Triplets?! That's amazing, I'm so happy for you! Do you know what you're having yet?"
"Yeah 2 boys and a girl."
"Congrats Doc" Travis said.
"Thank you guys, but enough of me, how've you guys been since we last spoke?" I asked, getting settled into my chair.
"Oh much better, we're communicating a lot better. At least I think we are, what do you think Trav?" Kendra said turning her attention to her husband, Travis.
"Yeah, I definitely think we're in a much better place."
"Well tell me what you guys have changed for the communication to improve?"
"For me, I'd say that my listening is what changed. Like before, I only listened just enough for me to develop a come back, instead of listening to actually hear what she's saying." Travis opened up, "now, I know that when she fusses, or what appears to me as fussing, its because she cares. I mean, I knew she cared before but I also only heard her nagging as a nuisance, instead of hearing the words behind the nagging."
"Ok, and for you Kendra?"
"I think that now I simply talk less, and I know that sounds like a bad thing because communication is usually about talking more, but I talk less because I know that now he hears me the first time around. I don't feel the need to repeat myself and seem like I'm nagging in the first place."
