My boyfriend Bar and I were cuddled up on the couch, watching a chick flick. As much as he hated them, he pained through it for me. Ah, what a great boyfriend. My fingers were curled into his as my head rested nicely on his broad shoulder. My deep chestnut hair fell like a dark waterfall around me. I smelled the strong scent of grass and earth from Bar. He must have patrolled the area earlier. I glanced at my boyfriend. His thick eyelashes flicked out. He had golden hair that was lovely to run your hands through. He turned to me and smiled, dimples showing. I bite my lip stopping the sudden urge to wrap my arms around him and kiss him. He leaned down and kissed my forehead.
“What’s wrong, Tes?”
“Nothing. You’re just so perfect.” I grinned, nuzzling his neck.
He grabbed my shoulders and pulled me back, a lazy grin on his face, “I’m perfect? Have you seen yourself? God, you’re absolutely beautiful,” His fingers pushed a strand of hair out of my face. His fingers lightly brushed over my cheeks. I felt the heat rush to my neck and cheeks.
He smirked, “You’re blushing, babe.”
I shoved him off, “Because!” Every time he touched me, my whole body heated it. But I would think I would have gotten over that maybe a year ago but everyday is like the first day. But the Unification was going to rip us apart. Every five years, a new Alpha male and female will be chosen by the Elders. What pissed me off was, Bar was a shoe-in to win. Everyone knows it even my parents and must of the other wolves in our school, Vexing High. Bar was known as the strongest Alpha.
I, on the other hand, not so much. I am an Alpha but I lack leadership. My pack is known as the Retards ‘cause we all misbehave (not me but the others!). I’m also considered irresponsible because I couldn’t control them. I know they wouldn’t do anything severely stupid. Ty probably would which means Wes would follow his lead. Jaz would ignore them and Kaye and Jill would gossip about how much they hate the Spice pack.
The girl that would win and be Bar’s mate would be Cassie Hahn. Ew… It wasn’t that I didn’t like her_ okay I hate her but only because she hated me and thought she was better then me. I don’t know why but even when we were children we never got along. We used to fight in the sandbox. Not the best place to fight since sand ends up your nose and down your throat. Yum. She annoyed the crap out of me and I’m sure she’s slept with everyone that is anyone even though the Elders said we must be pure for the Unification. The Elders want to produce good offspring which is why they pick and we are forced along.
“The Alpha male and female will be chosen tonight.” I muttered, thinking about Cassie all over Bar.
Bar squeezed my hand, eyes sparkling, “You and me, babe.”
“Yeah right,” I snorted, “Everyone knows you’ll get it. You and Cassie will make a cute couple.”
“Don’t jinx us, Tes. The Elders wouldn’t dare touch us. They know we’re the best Alphas.”
“They know you are the best Alpha.” He began to shake his head but I stopped him, “I have no problem with you and Cassie being… uh… mates. Honestly.”
“You don’t?” His face relaxed. Was that relief?
“No,”
“Good,” He kissed my nose, “At least she’s hot.”
“Huh?” Did I hear that right? Did he just call Cassie hot?
He shrugged, “Not as hot as you but I’m glad it won’t be Kaye or something.”
I gasped and pulled out of his arm. I stomped over to the front door, Bar persuading me. I flicked on all the lights and slammed open the door. It was snowing out. A white blanket covered my front yard. I chugged his coat at him, “Get out, Bar.”
