I felt like I was in a bad episode of Gossip Girl. My hands curled into fists and I flew at Cassie. I was yanked down halfway through the air by Caden. Heat spread across my face and neck. Reid didn’t look surprised that I almost attacked Cassie.

“I think you need to leave,” Cassie said.

“Shut up, you stupid whore!” I sneered. I struggled in Caden’s arms. His hands had latched around my waist, immobilizing me.

Reid looked fine. His cheeks were a rosy red which I’ve never seen before. His silver hair was messy but it looked good on him. Everything looked good on him. A needle was in his forearm making me realize that he was not doing well. I mean, he did almost die and had a blood transfusion.

Cassie crossed her arm over her chest, “You have no right to be here, Tessa. Now get out or I’ll call security.”

“You’re not his mate, Cassie. I am if you forgot.”

“Not anymore,” Her lips twitched up.

I glanced at Reid, “What?”

He avoided my gaze.

“What do you mean by ‘not anymore’?”

Cassie shrugged, “Things have changed.”

“Nothing has changed!” I snarled, “Let me go, Caden. I want to talk to Reid. Alone.”

Cassie locked eyes with Reid, “I’m not leaving him.”

“Leave or I’ll drag you out.” I growled.

Caden released me and stepped toward the door.

“Go,” Reid finally spoke. His voice was hoarse. Cassie frowned and glared at me. I ignored her and Caden and her walked out. The door clicked shut. I turned to Reid.

“What the hell is going on?” My voice was barely a whisper.

Reid frowned, “Cassie is pregnant and it’s mine.”

Ohmigod. Cassie was pregnant. Reid slept with her without a condom and got her pregnant. My hands curled to fists. I wanted to punch something. Anything. Without thinking, I socked Reid in the face. He groaned. Blood dripped from his now broken nose. I didn’t give a crap that I punched that hard. I wiped my knuckles on my shirt. My breath was coming out hard. I closed my eyes and said the only thing that came to my head, “Why? Why didn’t you use protection? Why did you even sleep with her? Why?”

He hesitated, “I did use protection. I slept with her before we were picked for the Unification. Unlike your boyfriend.”

“He’s not my boyfriend anymore. I came here to tell you that. I came here to tell you that I’m tired of fighting with you. I wanted to actually try for us to work it out till the Unification. To actually get to know you,” I muttered.

He smiled that crooked smile of his, “I wish we could have gotten to know each other better. More then that, I wish I could kiss you.”

I shook my head, “I don’t think we’d be kissing for a long time,”

“I know but one last one. One that means goodbye.” He whispered.

“Why are you saying ‘goodbye’?” I asked.

“Do you think the Elders will let us stay together after they find out that Cassie is pregnant with my child?”

I dug my nails into my palm, “What are they going to do?”

“I don’t know,”

“Why doesn’t she just get an abortion?” I asked.

His eyes widened, “The baby doesn’t deserve to die because I was reckless.”

“You’re going to keep it? Raise it?”

“Stop calling the baby ‘it’. The baby deserves better. And I made the mistake, I should take care of it. I can’t abandon the baby.” He spoke softly.

I sighed. I didn’t know what else to say. He had an answer for everything. The door cracked opened and Cassie walked in. My anger boiled over the top. Before I could stop myself, I punched Cassie in the face.

“Hey!” Reid shouted.

Cassie whimpered and stumbled to Reid, sitting onto his lap as she wrapped her arms around him. He pushed her off. Her lips curled up. Caden gripped my wrists and pulled free, “I won’t hit her again. She’s not worth it.”

Suddenly, the room filled with people. Cassie’s whore of a mother grabbed her daughter and pulled her away from Reid, hissing harshly in her ear. Reid’s father came by his side, a nonchalant smile on his face. My parents entered the room, standing on either sides of me. The two Elders that had picked me and Reid sauntered in, black robes hugging them. They smiled, yellow sharp teeth in our view. My stomach cringed.

Everyone started speaking at once. Cassie’s mother screaming over everyone’s.

“Silence!” The man Elder growled, baring his teeth at everyone.

The woman Elder narrowed her eyes on Reid, “It has occurred to us that you have gotten Cassie Hahn pregnant. The punishment of not being pure is death but since Cassie’s mother and her daughter are not financially stable, you are now assigned with her.”

“What?” I barked.

“You heard her, Tessa.” Cassie snapped back, “Reid and I are mates now. You can go back to Bar now.”
