Happy New Year and Keep it uber Fresh!****

Reid and I walked up to the porch of my house. My hands were stuffed in my sweatshirt pockets. My hair was whipping in my face as did Reid’s black locks. I glanced at him. He had a small smile on his face, his expression off into the distance. I stopped walking when we reached the front door. The living room lights were on.

“Well, bye, Reid.” My hand reached for the doorknob but Reid grabbed my hand and pulled me toward him. His nose wrinkled in disgust. WTH? Did I smell bad or something? He pulled my into his arms, wrapping them around my waist as he planted a soft kiss on my lips. My eyes widened in shock. Yeah, I wasn’t really used to Reid kissing me. I kept getting shocked by that electrocuting feel that seared through my veins when he kissed me nevertheless touch me.

The door squeaked open and I heard a gasp. My nails dug into Reid’s forearm as I pulled back, shitless that my mom, dad and some random guy wearing black head to toe were staring at me, “I see the soon-to-be weds are getting along a little more then necessary.” The guy in black whispered.

My eyes narrowed at him. Who the hell was this guy?

“Reid, maybe it’s time for you to go,” My mother spat. Her brown hair was curled back into a tight, breathless bun. Wrinkles crawled around her lips and eyes.

“No, he has as much rights as Miss Lupan to hear what I have to say,”

Mom looked pissed, “But you said you just needed to talk to Tessa.”

“Mrs. Lupan, I think I know what I’m doing. Mr. Stone, come in.”

Reid glanced at me and quickly took my hand in his. We walked in together. The living room was large with two deep red couches making an L, facing toward the TV. My mom and dad took over one couch while Reid and I settled in the other. The guy in black stood in front of us, hands plastered together in front of him.

“How much do you kids know about the Seekers?”

The name didn’t ring a bell but from the corner of my eye, I saw Reid tense.

A smile spread on the guy’s face, “Reid, do you have experience with these demons?”

Reid smirked, “I’m sure you’d have heard of the stories, Micah.”

“Your wife seems clueless,” Micah murmured, turning to me, “The Seekers, my dear, are people we don’t want to associate with. Do you know about the Witches Truce?”

I nodded, “The Witches Truce was a truce between us, werewolves and the witches. It resolved our ongoing war.”

“Yes,” Micah nodded, “And with every truce, there are people who do not agree. In this case, the truce created a secret society which is called Seek but the people involved are Seekers.”

I pursed my lips, “Are you saying there is a secret society out there just to kill us?”

Micah frowned, rolling his eyes, “No shit Sherlock.”

Ooooooookay. How mean. “And this has to do with us?” Reid asked, “They haven’t bothered us for a good seventeen years. What makes them want to come after us now?”

“Simple. They don’t want her to reproduce.”

***

Are you serious? I wasn’t even thinking about reproducing anytime soon or at all. The fact is straight. I’m supposed to get prego right after the Unification. Lovely. I’ll have stretch marks and swollen feet during the time I’m supposed to have the sexist body of my lifetime. Shit my pants.

“I can’t believe this.” I muttered.

Mom cut carrots. My mom cut carrots when she was nervous. Weird hobby I guess, “Well, stuff like this happens. I mean, the Seekers are just snotty noobs who hate us.” Mom slammed the knife onto the counter and sighed. She gripped the hem of her shirt and pulled up. Burn marks extended across her waist and stomach, “They did this to me, Tessa. I don’t want that happening to my baby.”

I grabbed my mother’s hand and pulled her shirt down for her. Tears were at the edge of her eyes, “Reid won’t let them do anything to me, Mom.”

“What if Reid isn’t there? You need to learn how to protect yourself. This is what happened to me because I couldn’t protect myself.”

“What do you want me to do? Join a karate class?” I had a sarcastic tone.

“I’m sure Reid could teach you,” Micah stepped into the kitchen. We were supposed to bring snacks, “He is a well fighter. We need more people like him. I would encourage for your pack and his to train to fight, my dear. The Seekers aren’t going to go easy on you just because you are a child.”

“It will also be a good way for our pack to bond.” Reid leaned against the wall, hands in his pocket like always. I wonder what he was hiding in there. My dad stepped around them and put a protective arm around my mother.

I nodded, “We need to bond.”

Reid smiled at me as if saying we bonded a lot today. I rolled my eyes.

“What exactly do Seekers look like?” I asked.

Micah narrowed his eyes, “If they had a distinctive race, wouldn’t you think they wouldn’t be a problem right now?”

Well there most be a way of finding out if they are or not. I just assumed they were like you,”

“Excuse me?” Micah hissed, stepping forward in an aggressive manner. I followed his stance.

“Vampires have a distinctive smell, Micah. Don’t they?”

He stepped out of his stance and sighed, “But they are not only one group of creature, my dear. They are mostly witches but they could be vampires or fayries.”

“What else do you know about them?” The tables have turned. I’m asking him the questions now.

“Other then the fact that they hate you guys and want you dead so you can’t reproduce more offspring and you all die out, nothing else was documented.”

When wolves reach a certain age, which is roughly around the age of 25, they can’t reproduce anymore. That’s why wolves get married at such a young age to reproduce as much as possible.

And now since Seekers are apparently after us, we can’t just seat around. We fight. And we kick major ass.

The doorbell rang and everyone’s head snapped toward the door.

“I’ll get it.” I said before anyone could argue. I raced to the door and opened it. I was going to do the dramatic gasp of shock but I wasn’t really shocked. Okay, I was but I wouldn’t let it show. Not in front of Bar anyway.

Bar stood in front of me, a sad lopsided smile on his face. He had a vase full of flowers I’m sure he bought it at the Dollar Tree. He had two balloons that were shaped like hearts. One was pink and the other was an obnoxious red.

“What do you want?”

“I want you to take me back, baby.” His voice was croaked as if his throat was dry, “You know me and Cassie aren’t anything. We’re something, Tes. We’re everything. I can’t imagine losing you like this. You’re my life. My everything. And if you reject me now, I’ll just come after you until you finally take me back. I love you, Tes.”

I opened my mouth to basically tell him to fuck off but a lump had formed in my throat when he said I was his life.

Damn, he got me.
