“Do you really believe he didn’t do it?” Jill asked as Kaye’s mouth was agape. We were talking about Carson and I brought the fact that all six of his siblings died. As much as I didn’t want to admit it, I kinda felt like Carson was responsible for the murder. Babies don’t just die like that. I would understand if one did but all six. I was scared of the thought.

I shrugged, “There wasn’t any evidence but…”

Kaye muttered, “The Elders wouldn’t allow a killer to marry you. That’s just crazy.”

I bit the inside of my mouth. That’s what I wanted to believe. The Elders were always right even when things sounded crazy.

“Did he try anything on you?” Jill asked.

“No,” I turned to Kaye, “You were there Kaye. He seemed normal.”

“Yea, I would never believe this after meeting him.”

Jill flipped over on my bed and frowned, “The nice ones always have a dark, crazy side.”

“Not everyone, Jill.” I sighed.

“You should look up his history. I’m sure the Elders building have documents of everyone.” Jill suggested.

I raised an eyebrow, “Are you suggesting breaking into the Elders building and look up his file?”

Jill nodded, “You want to know more about this guy right? You don’t have to if you don’t want to but I’m not the one about to marry a murderer.”

“Stop scaring her,” Kaye defended me.

“Who works in the file department?” I asked.

Kaye looked at Jill, nervously then back at me, “Reid’s dad.”

You have got to be kidding me? Of all the people that could possibly work there it had to be Reid’s dad. “We’re going tonight.”

“I can’t go,” Kaye said, “Garret is taking me ice skating.”

“You and Garret are going out?” Jill asked.

“Yea,”

“Since when?”

Kaye shrugged, “We kept on the down low. We were going to tell everyone but then the Elders told us you and Reid weren’t going to get married.”

“Whoa, wait, where was I for the last couple of days?” Jill asked, “You and Reid aren’t getting married?”

“He got Cassie pregnant.”

“WHAT?” Kaye and Jill screamed at the same time. Jill jumped to her feet and literally looked like she was about to kill someone.

“I’m going to kill her!”

I frowned, “You can’t. Let’s just pretend Reid and I never happened, okay? He’s out and Carson is in.”

“Really,” Jill raised an eyebrow, “Carson the Killer over sexy bad-boy-who deserves to die-Reid? You’re kidding yourself.”

I stood up, “Okay, that’s enough. I’m sick of everyone else deciding who I can be with or not. I don’t want Reid. Not anymore. So stop reminding me of him.”

“Tessa_” Jill looked hurt.

“I’m sick of all of this,” I interrupted her, exhausted. With that, I stumbled out of the room. I needed water. My throat felt dry. I went into the kitchen and poured myself some water. I took a gulp and heard a loud knock on the door.
