"Ooh, hot name." Maya gushed.
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, yeah."
Maya grinned before a little song sounded and she pulled out her cell. She winced and looked down before looking back at me. "Sorry, it's Cole." She said apologetically, moving to put her phone back in her pocket.
I waved my hand. "Go on, answer it. Maybe he's asking you out." I wiggled my eyebrows and Maya's cheeks flushed pink. I laughed and she smiled at me before pulling her phone out again and hitting the answer button.
"Hi Cole." Maya grinned, answering the phone. "She's good...yeah...yes Cole!...alright, I'll be back soon...bye."
When she sat down, I smiled at her. "So he didn't ask you out?"
She rolled her eyes. "No, but he wants me back home, he wants me to help him study for his exams." Maya got up and I stood up with her, "I'm sorry for having to leave so quickly, but maybe we can go out for coffee sometime?"
"Yeah, of course!" I grinned, walking the few feet with her to the door, "You can even bring Cole if you want." I suggested, opening the door for her.
Maya smiled, "Okay, I'll call you and we can arrange it. Oh, and Avril?"
"Yeah?" I asked, walking into the small hallway with her.
She hugged me, surprising me. "I'm sorry for my mom, and everything that happened." She whispered. I hugged her back tightly and when we both pulled away a few seconds later, I smiled at her.
"Now, go on and help Cole with his exam-studying." I grinned, pushing my cousin lightly and teasingly.
Maya scoffed teasingly, "Eager to get me out much?"
We both laughed before I hugged her again and sent her on her way. Just when she was tentatively opening the stairwell door, I called out her name.
Maya turned around and looked at me. I grinned and called, "Make sure you go after your guy!"
"You too!" She called back, laughing as I blushed. I waved and she waved back before walking through the door.
I smiled as I walked back into my apartment. I remembered Jace was coming over, and I decided to call her and call it off. I was really tired so I just wanted to go to bed, to be alright for the next day at school.
I sat down on the couch and phoned Jace, telling her that I was tired and that I would fill her and all the girls in about it the next day. After we said goodbye and I had hung up, I grabbed the picture of my parents and I and looked at it for a moment without expression, then I smiled. "Hi mom, hi dad. Maya came over. Life is better now, I can practically see you guys smiling from up there in Heaven, that's where I know you are." I took a breath and continued, still smiling, "I just want you guys to know I miss you a lot, and I wish you were here. But I won't cry over it anymore though, because I know it probably makes you two sad. So, I love you. I just wanted to say that."
I put the picture back on the table where I always kept it, before I thought again and picked it up again. I walked into my bedroom, which was closet-sized, and placed the picture on my tiny bedside table. After I had changed into my pajamas and brushed my teeth, I climbed into bed and pulled the thin covers over my body. "Night mom, night dad. I love you." I whispered, before closing my eyes and falling asleep.
~Avril's Dream~
I smile and look at my parents. They look so happy, standing there in the clouds. My dad has his arm around my mom's shoulder, and they are both smiling happily, like the couple I know they are. I smile and wave at them, hoping to see them wave back.
