Alec
•••"We must not kill her! Don't you see it? She's the savior. She was sent to protect us!" I pleaded with the Elders who remained adamant about their decision to kill Tessa.
Maya's bottom lip twisted in aggravation. "What about the evil that resides within her?"
I stared back at the stubborn grey-haired woman and it took all of my might to not snap her neck. She didn't deserve to be one of the Elders.
Maya was a cold lady with no emotions. She belonged in Astute and used her abilities to manipulate people into thinking they're inferior to her. But that didn't work on me.
"I'm not going to say there's no evil in her," I announced and Maya glanced sideways at Graham. "There is evil in all of us. But what matters, is how we control that evil. Will she act upon that evil? Yes, of course, she will."
Graham snickered and I narrowed my eyes at him. "Don't sit here and tell me you've never acted upon your evil, Graham because we all have. But we learned to control it at times where it became dangerous. Tessa will control the evil when the time comes. She will choose the light over the dark. She will do the right thing. Tessa will save us from the force that threatens our very existence. She -"
I was cut off when Graham cleared his throat. I turned to him angrily and he grinned smugly at me. "Pardon me, Alec." He mocked my thick English accent and I gritted my teeth. "You mentioned the force that threatens our existence. What force could this possibly be?"
I laughed at his ridiculous question. How could he be so oblivious? So gullible? I never did like Graham. He always showed his strong statue to the world but inside he was a different man.
He was a coward.
And he knew it. He knew he was a coward. He ran away from all our problems. That's why he sat there now, denying the fact that an evil force will reign amongst us.
"You can't possibly believe the Blaze has just vanished?" I questioned Graham and watched as the colour left his cheeks. "They will come back and they will be stronger with more powerful allies!"
Maya slammed her fist onto the oak table and clenched her jaw. "Enough, Alec!" She warned me. "I will not sit here and watch as you break down. I understand what the Blaze did to your family. But you can't obsess yourself with the idea that they will come back and you will be granted with the chance to avenge their deaths."
I rose from the chair and gripped the edge of the table, my knuckles white with tension.
How dare she assume such?
"This has absolutely nothing to do with my family!" I roared. "So don't you dare..."
I took deep, steady breaths to calm my anger as my grip on the table tightened.
Graham snickered and Maya tilted her head, grinning at me.
I had it. I had enough of this.
I growled and flipped the table over. Maya, Graham, Max, and Kelis stood up in alarm and stared at me with wide eyes.
My chest rose and fell with my rapid breathing. "How can you not see the signs?!" I raged. "Everything has been made clear to you! Tessa is the Last Theiro and nothing will change that! You think killing her will end this? She will only get angry and destroy everything!"
