~*~"I'm not going to fight you. There is another way to resolve this."
I tilted my head and burned my blazing eyes into his skull. He thought he was brave. He thought I would listen to what he had to say. He thought I would treat him differently just because of our past. He's wrong. He's irrelevant. And he's dead.
"There has to be a part of you that doesn't want to do this."
Maybe he was right and I didn't want him to be. This was his fault. Maybe I should stop blaming people for what happened to me, but it was harder than that. They made stupid decisions that destroyed my life. And I will never forgive them.
"You know I can't do that, Harris."
He jerked forward and tightened his hand around my arm. "I want to help you, Tessa. Please."
His emeralds eyes were pleading. For a moment, I felt that it was possible. I could give all of this up and forgive. I could start a new life with Sacha.
"Where have I heard that before?" I tried once to change and they used me. Not again. Not this time.
I twisted the dagger playfully between my fingers and grinned while the picture of me stabbing him multiple times played on my mind.
