Finding Clues

Ben was walking on the perimeter of camp, looking for signs of a struggle. Ben’s hair was a hot pink. He wore his Camp Half Blood shirt and his sword was sheathed at his side. He was beginning to walk to the edge of the forest when he saw a body.

His instincts kicked in and he ran towards the body. He flipped the limp body over and saw a face of shock. A scream was on the poor girls face. She wore the Camp Half Blood shirt and had plant seed strapped to her waist.

She was obviously a daughter of Demeter. Actually, she looked like the girl who got claimed a little while back. What was her name? Issy. Ben inspected Issy and found four small punctures in her neck. Then he looked at the ground surrounding her and found bird-like prints.

He put together the small punctures and bird-like prints. Harpies had been here. He looked at the tracks outsides the camp’s magic border. There was a space where something, about the size of a human, had been dropped. Brianna.

I was lying on my bed in the wooden shack, looking at the roof; the small cracks in the wood and the long scratch running across the ceiling. I had the bottle of aqua liquid in my pocket. I had asked Tom what the liquid did but he refused to tell me. He’d only told me that I’d know its purpose when I drink it.

I am considering drinking it now, but decide against it. I’ll drink it first thing tomorrow. That way Tom will see how my reaction. My eyelids droop and I am soon asleep. For the first time since being with Tom I have a sleepless night.

I am near the edge of a cliff; there are no surroundings except the massive drop. I see Ben running towards me. He is panting and puffing, beads of sweat trickle down his face. I want to run to him but my feet won’t move. Ben keeps running, the cliff’s edge becoming nearer with his every stride.

It’s like he didn’t see me. Ben picks up his pace, sprinting at the cliff edge. His hazel eyes are fixed on the horizon, not the approaching cliff. Something clicks, he can’t see me and he can’t see the cliff. I turn my face away, not wanting to see Ben’s face as he realises there is no cliff.

An invisible force moved my head and holds me, so I am watching Ben. Ben is only 5 strides away from the cliff edge. 4. 3. 2. 1. Ben runs straight over the cliff and plummets. I try to scream but no sound comes out.

I hear a whoosh. Next second Ben is flying. Black wings have sprouted from his back and his usual hazel eyes are red. His red hair is now black. He looks like a completely different person. Ben flaps his long, black wings to stay in the same place.

Ben starts to talk, except his voice is lower pitched and evil, “The thing you hold most precious will be lost.” Then Ben stopped flapping his wings and fell. I wanted to run and stop him, but I still couldn’t move.

The world went dark and I had visions of Ben with red eyes, and black wings and eyes invading my sleep.

I woke in the morning to the sun shining on my face, a new day beginning. I smiled and then the night’s events came flooding back. An evil Ben with red eyes and black wings and eyes. I shuddered at the thought. I changed into a purple shirt and denim shorts. I would’ve looked like a normal teenager if I didn’t have my sword strapped to my waist.

I hadn’t been attacked for the time I have been here so I decide to leave my sword in my room. I unclip the sheath from my small, black belt and lay it on the bed. I slip the aqua filled bottle into my pocket and grab my hairbrush. I brush back my hair and tie it in a messy ponytail.

I am about to walk out the door when I remember something. I turn back around, reach for my crystal necklace and slip it over my head. Now I’m ready for the day. I turn the doorknob and pull open the door. I walk out into the kitchen and find no dishes in the sink.

Tom isn’t at the table so I assume he’s outside. I walk out and find him sitting at the top of the hill. He hasn’t got a cheery smile on his face though; he had a worried and concerned look. I rapidly walked up the hill and sat next to him on the long, wooden seat.

“Are you alright?” I asked. It was pretty obvious that he wasn’t, but I didn’t want to pressure him into talking about what’s wrong. Tom shakes his head,

“I know you love it here, but soon you’ll want to return to your friends. You’ll leave me just like she did.”

“She?” I ask.

I think I see tears form in Tom’s eyes, “Her name was Kayt. She had brown eyes that matched her long, brown hair. She always wore her hair in two piggy tails. She had a short fringe as well. She wore long, black socks that ended at her thighs. She also wore a long sleeve white shirt and a yellow vest over it. She wore a short, red, frilly skirt.”

I look into Tom’s black eyes and reach for his hand. “I wouldn’t leave you, I’d bring you with me.”

He bows his head and looks at the ground. “The aqua-liquid. Where is it?”

I bring it out of my pocket, “Right here. You still haven’t old me what is does.” I say.

“If I told you would you drink it?” Tom asked. His black eyes looked into mine, looking for an answer.

“Only if you told me what it does.” I grip the small bottle tighter in my hand.

Tom smiles, “It makes you the happiest girl in world.”

“Sound’s cool!” I uncap the bottle and put it to my lips. I grasp Tom’s hand and gulp down the aqua liquid.
