Ben, Jason, Leo, Hannah and Esme had been following the hellhound for three days. They were now in Detroit. When the hellhound stopped at the edge of a lake the 5 demigods looked at each other.

“Do you think this is where Brianna is?” Jason asked. Hannah was tired from the restless days of walking. The trees surrounding the crystal, blue lake rustled in the breeze.

Then she asked what had been on her mind the last few hours, “Does anyone know today’s date?”

“No, one of us should go and check in a nearby shop.” Ben said.

“Let Super-Sized McShizzle check.” Leo said as he walked off to find today’s date.

The other demigods walked around looking for clues that lead to Brianna. After 5 minutes searching they came back, they all said that they hadn’t found anything.

Leo ran over to her as she stood up. He handed Hannah the newspaper: “Here, the date is the 17th of August.”

“The 17th of August?” Hannah asked, trying to hold back her excitement.

Leo nods his head, “Yep, 17th of August. That’s what the newspaper says.” Leo points to the top of the newspaper. It says the date is the 17th of August.

Hannah only just manages not to scream. Leo notices her sudden excitement,

“Anything special about the 17th Of August?” he asked.

“We’ll soon find out.” Hannah smiled and then walked over to the lake.

The black hellhound, whose name was Bruce, started barking at the lake. Hannah crouched next to Bruce and patted his head. He whimpered, looking in the direction of the lake.

“Oh, I know what you want…” Hannah looked from the dog to the water. She imagined the water separating through the middle, about five meters wide. When she opened her eyes the water had parted, five meters wide through the middle.

Bruce barked happily and waddled out into the now dry section of the lake. Leo came back and gasped when he saw the hellhound in the middle of a dry lake. He dropped the newspaper he’d bought from a newspaper store.

The other demigods patted Hannah on the back as they walked past her, through the middle of the lake. Leo stood, gaping at Hannah, “H-How did you know you could do that?” he asked, closing his open mouth.

“My birthday is on the 17th of August.” Hannah smiled, showing her dimples, “My mother told me I would most likely get new powers on my 17th birthday.” Leo smiled back and the two walked through the lake together.

A girl watched as the demigods walked through the lake. Her black hair and eyes helped conceal her; along with the fact she had been perched in the branches of a tree. She wore simple brown clothing, which helped her blend in with the tree bark.

Her eyes focused on a boy with a tool belt around his waist. He was the one she needed to break Brianna.

I woke up in a large sack, which was being pulled across the ground. I felt groggy and remembered the aqua liquid. It was a knockout potion, and I was stupid enough to drink it.

I struggled to move into a position when I was looking up. I looked down and found that my hands and feet were bound with rope. Except this rope was burning red, the colour of flames.

My knees hit me in the face when the sack stopped being pulled. I heard a deep voice:

“What do you want?”

“Father, I have successfully brought you what you need.” I heard a familiar voice. I pictured red hair and black eyes. Tom was speaking.

“How would you possibly know what I need?” asked the deep voice.

“I know you wanted an vessel that has felt fear, hate and love in a short amount of time. Well this vessel is definitely going to be in fear shortly!” Tom laughed.

I felt hands on the sack and I let myself sink to the floor. If I were to have a chance of escape I would need the element of surprise. Light streamed in through the top of the sack and covered my face. I felt hands grip my arms and pull me out into the light.

“Who is this?” The deep voice asked. I sneaked a peek and saw a tall teenage boy. He looked like he had just walked out of an anime drawing. His black eyes looked down at me with a look of pride on his face. His black hair, the same shade as his eyes.

“Her name is Brianna, daughter of Poseidon. She is the one you have been looking for.” Tom looked at the teenage boy.

The teenage boy spoke with a deep voice, “What are you waiting for? Wake her up.”

I felt the fire ropes around my wrists and ankles tighten. Then I felt hands shaking me and I let my eyes fly open. I saw Tom leaning over me, his hair a dark black. He pulled me up to my knees in front of the teenage boy.

The teenage boy spoke, “Tremble in the presence of Lord Kronos.” He laughed manically and the smiled at me, showing pearl-white teeth. It was the only thing light about him.

I decided to keep my wits and be ready for anything. “Lord Kronos? Pshh, to be honest, I am underwhelmed.”
