Chapter 27: Missing

Blazewhisker's POV:

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey, join beneath the highledge for a clan meeting!" Firestar's yowl abrupt the cats and rang in the clearing. 

"What now?" I mumbled as I looked at the worried glance of Moonwhisper but didn't dare ask. Then all the cats began to sit around the ledge as Firestar looked around one more time before continuing. 

"Our clanmate known as Grayheart has gone missing."

Of course he has, I thought as the cats stood silent as Firestar carried on.

"I need to send a patrol to find him. If any hunting patrols scent or spot him, bring him back or follow his trail. The main patrol will contain the best cats in finding him. That includes Moonwhisper and Blazewhisker."

Of course he'd choose me. Just because I'm his brother, doesn't mean I should go. Then I heard whispers across camp but I ignored them. But then Dustpelt spoke up, "Only two cats? Firestar, have you got bees in your brain?"

Then Firestar glared at him. "No, I don't. There's only one cat missing, Dustpelt. So, there's no point. I would've sent a larger patrol if more than one cat is missing. Moonwhisper and Blazewhisker can manage. If they run into trouble, one of them can come back to camp to warn us."

Then Dustpelt dipped his head. "Okay, Firestar."

"You may leave at once." Firestar mewed to us. 

"Yes, Firestar." Moonwhisper mewed as she flicked her tail, beckoning me to follow as she headed out. I followed. We picked up his scent along the ferns. 

"Do you think he has ran into unknown territory?" Moonwhisper asked.

"Possibly," I answered. 

"Then let's follow the trail," She mewed, confidently. We kept following it 'til we got to a dead end covered by bushes where his scent was strongest. "I'll go through the bushes and talk to him. Don't worry, I'll find out why he left." She insisted.
