Consequences

Angst

Alex's POV

My sister was missing and I was going to find her. Her last known location was the fortress so Brainy and I aimed to start there. What we found was horrifying. I'd never seen my sister like this.

There was this cage of ice around her and a glow of green clawing at her skin. Supergirl herself had never been smaller. Arms wrapped around herself and knees brought up to her chest, how was this the same person I'd seen just hours before? Once our footsteps reverberated around the fortress, the only indication she'd heard us was the now change in position. Her eyes were fixated on the group as she sat on her knees. Who did this to her?

Where was Lena?

Brainy had rushed to the console while I focused on my sister. Her head then flung up, eyes charged and reading to shoot.
"Don't you dare! I deserve to be in here!" Her eyes were rimmed red, something terrible had happened here.
"Supergirl, where is Lena?"
"It doesn't matter. Go away and leave me here." The shields came down as soon as they knew they were wanted, this caused an unexpected reaction. Kara cried out for the pain to come back, a tantrum thrown for her right to her torture. "Put it back! Put it back now!" She repeated over and over. I had tried move her but an unmovable force was just that. This was my sister. In the end all we could do was put the shields back up and monitor her. Seeing what we later saw, broke me.

Lena's POV

I needed time to enact my plans, there was a safety net of course. If Supergirl were to get free and fly over here, I had Kryptonite cannons ready to lock onto her position. She never came though.

I'd left a camera to watch over her, I'd seen Alex and Brainy come to rescue her, so why didn't she leave? Checking the live feed showed me her still sitting there a day or two later. It was rather pitiful really, the girl of steel alone for once. She sat before me finally secluded, out of choice. She couldn't hurt anyone else this way.

For years she had used me, dragged me through the dirt all the while convincing me she was separating me from my last name. My brother and mother had done a good enough job dirtying that for her. From using me to take down Veronica Sinclair to forcing me to search the childhood notebooks of my psychotic brother. All the while she sat there under the false pretence of a friend. She was a great actress, I had to give her that. For a moment I had believed her unwavering enthusiasm was a good influence on me. She made me consider an idea of something more. The temptress had followed me to a gym simply to know more of my personal life. The most horrendous part of it all was watching back footage of her with me. For a moment it all seemed real.

Supergirl appeared as an unbreakable force of nature, as always. Her stubbornness was what forced me to return to the fortress. Letting the Krptyonite fester in her bloodstream would kill her, she had to know that.

It appeared she chose to ignore the portal, not saying a word until the shield had come down again.
"Alex, I already told you not to take it down, let it kill me already. The world would be better for it." Even without superhearing I'd heard her. Did I really have such an influence?
"I thought I made it clear I didn't want to kill you?" Even from where I was the tension in her jaw was visible, she was hurting.
"Crystal." Not quite apparently.
"Then why cower in the ice?" Despite what I had attempted to tell myself, I still cared for her. Watching all of this took a toll on me.
"My patience and self-destruction wouldn't be on you, besides, what better place to think?" Still so humorous in the face of all this, how embarrassing.
