Kara's POV

It took a while to crack my eyes open and tear myself out of bed. Eventually, I managed to do it though. Glancing beside me, Lena looked so innocent, snoozing in our bed, untouched by her past horrors with her hair fanning out around her. A few strands had fallen over her face so I'd brushed them away for her. She stirred a little but not enough to wake her. So beautiful. Remembering the events of the day past only brought a small smile to my face. We were gonna get a cat together, and a dog. She'd absolutely fallen for this happy little puppy while I'd had a cat curl up on my lap. We'd both wanted to widen our little family. Unfortunately, we couldn't take them home that day, but it was only a week or so to wait. Lena had been so excited, gone was that poker face of hers. She could be happy now.

I walked aimlessly around my apartment. I'd already checked my phone and put it in my pocket. Instinct had almost got me dressed and ready for work, almost. I could've left the apartment, could've done some superheroing, but I didn't want to leave yet. On my fridge were so many more pictures than before. Me and Alex, karaoke night (the first time I managed to get Lena up with me) and just random photos with my friends and family. What I would've given to tell them I love them one more time. I knew it was crude and cruel of me to just leave but I wouldn't put them through the pain or worry of knowing. They would've tried everything to keep me here, I knew they would. I'd already made my choice.

We hadn't done a big, fancy date in a while, Lena and I. We found we preferred little things. I'd organised the last one for us. I took her to the science museum in London. We talked about so much, her mind was beyond brilliant. My mother would be proud of me for finding her. She was so amazing and continued to blow my mind every day. With some of my people's technology, she just progressed even further. I couldn't talk to anyone else about that stuff, I couldn't even let people know how much I really knew. She only taught me more. I wasn't sure I'd known love before, not to the scale I did with her.

I was going to miss all this. I wasn't sure I was ready to leave it all behind. I'd miss waking up to her humming in the kitchen or reading a book with her concentration face on. No more sciency conversations between the two of us and no more making her smile. There was nothing more I wanted to do than stay with her or even kiss her goodbye but I couldn't. I didn't want to wake her up; I didn't want to risk taking away her last good night's sleep. Instead I left a gentle kiss on her forehead, I did love her mind after all.

The time had finally come. My hand felt numb, when I looked down at it I understood why. It was gone. I could've panicked, could've cried out but decided to just look at her. I'd briefly watched myself in a mirror, fading to nothing. She would be my last thought. Tears streamed down my face as I just waited. Wherever I was going, I hope I remembered them, remembered my Lena.

Lena's POV

I was more than used to being the first awake but everything was so silent. The other side of the bed was empty and calling out for Kara still left me with nothing. It wouldn't have been the first morning she'd been off saving the world but after the nightmare, I only wanted to see her. When she wasn't back after a half hour or so I started to get rather worried. I tried calling, no answer. She almost always answered her phone to me. Her pyjamas were nowhere to be found either. I called out for her again, hoping on a whim that that would bring her home, still nothing. By this point, I was beyond stressing so I'd gone as far as to scour the internet for any mention of the hero. The most recent mention was the bank robbery she'd stopped the afternoon before.

What else could I do to find her? Alex? The woman was pretty much used to hearing from me at this point. The number of times I'd called or texted her about when Kara would be done with her work, what her favourite wine was or if she'd like the random presents I wanted to pick up for her. Kara's sister was surprisingly patient with me, we also got to have a load of interesting conversations on our own. When I actually asked her about her missing sister, she seemed just as confused as me though. She said she'd check the kryptonite scanner (and the others) with Brainy, she'd get back to me after she was done.
