"Buck, a lot of people are dying," Brody vigorously wiped the dirt from his face. He could hear the sound of bullets flying everywhere, biting his cheek to try and focus on anything but the sound of bodies dropping."We're going to get through this." Bucky gritted out, grabbing his brothers shoulder as they moved behind another barricade.
Brody clenched his teeth together, forcing himself to take a deep breath as he banged his head against the metal barrier. "Too many people are dying, Bucky. They're capturing too many. We can't-"
"Brody, stop talking." The younger Barnes swallowed back his anxieties, shaking his head softly. "Hey, you're going to be fine okay? It's you and me, Brody. We're gonna win this, and then we're going for drinks with Steve." The two boys let out small laughs, trying to block out the yelling coming from the men they were fighting alongside. "I know by the way."
"Know what?"
"About the Steve thing."
"I don't know what you're talking about." The brothers both loaded their guns, shooting at whoever they could get eyes on. They were losing more and more people, soon enough they would either get captured or die.
"I know you like boys, Brody. I know how you feel about Steve." Bucky gave a weak smile to his brother. "You act like a total idiot in front of him, great job."
Brody knew what Bucky was doing. The eldest Barnes knew something bad was about to happen, and he was trying to distract his little brother. It was something Bucky had always been good at, keeping Brody talking to try and calm his nerves.
"Supportive as always, Buck." Brody let out a sigh, throwing his gun to the side. "No ammo. I've got nothing left."
"Hey," Bucky ducked back beside his brother as he continued to ignore their situation. "When we get back home and you stop being a punk, maybe you two could get that happy ending," the older Barnes winced softly as he forced a smile. Both brothers knew that they couldn't possibly do anything else.
They were the only two left, everyone else captured or dead. Or maybe, hopefully, some of them had escaped and ended up being safe.
"No way." Brody sniffled, a smile on his face as he tried to hold back tears. "People like me don't get endings like that."
"Bullshit." Even though Bucky was smiling, Brody could tell he was also trying to bite back tears. "Once we beat these asshat Nazis, we can have it all. All the boys and girls." Brody shook his head with a grin as Bucky laughed tiredly.
"Yeah," Brody whispered as he heard heavy footsteps approaching them. "It'd be nice to win."
Both brothers raised their hands as dozens of guns trained on them, not making any move to run or do anything stupid.
"Yeah," Bucky repeated in a whisper. "It would be nice."
Brody wasn't sure where he was exactly. Locked and overcrowded in a small cage alongside the men he had fought with.
"Bucky," the boy whispered quietly as he tried to block out all the shouts of the other soldiers. He was confused, overwhelmed at everything going on. Brody had very much expected to die in the war, far more than he ever would've thought he'd be taken hostage.
"You," Brody jumped as the cage door was thrown open. A man roughly grabbing onto the back of his collar. "Come." With a swift tug he lost balance, his feet slipping out from under him as the guard kept a tight grip on the back of his shirt.
"Hey," the Barnes mumbled weakly. The guard paid no attention, dragging him roughly across the floor and giving him no time to get back on his feet. He let out a fit of coughs as he felt his shirt collar dig into his skin, kicking hard to try and pull his feet from out under him. "Where are you taking me?" Brody gasped out as he finally found his footing, hurrying to keep up with the strange man.
The guards said no words, merely pushing the boy through a set of doors. Brody, having no time to anticipate getting shoved, slammed into the doors roughly. Days of being stuck in the cage leaving him weak and causing him to fall to the ground.
All of the guards in the room quickly rushed at him. Grabbing him by the arms and legs and dragging him onto one of the tables in the room.
"Hey! Hey! Stop it. What are you doing?" Brody shouted as he tried to thrash, feeling restraints going over his chest and tying down his limbs. "Let me out! Let me go you sons of bitches!" The guards ignored the screaming, leaving the room as soon as the boy was secured.
"Nice try, punk." Brody's head lulled to the side, a voice coming from the table next to him.
"I tried the exact same thing.""Bucky?" The Barnes boy mumbled wearily as his brother gave a sad nod.
"They brought me in yesterday, they've been talking about some experiment. Said they needed two of us," the Sergeant let out a dry chuckle as he trained his eyes on the ceiling. "Guess we're test subjects now."
"I just wanted to be a solider," the brunet forced a fake laugh as he felt tears falling from his eyes. Bucky let out a sad sigh, glancing back to his little brother.
"Me too, kid."
Suddenly eight guards rushed into the room, a small man with glasses and two large syringes in the middle of them.
"What the hell?" Brody screamed as the man approached him, writhing in panic as he tried to break his bonds. "Stay away from me!"
"Brody, it's gonna be okay."
Although the boy tried to focus on his brother's voice his panic seemed to swallow him whole as he continued to thrash.
"Stop! Stop!" The boy shouted as the guards began to pin him down. "Let me go, let me-"
A loud scream cut off the boy's shouting as the needle plunged into the vein in his neck.
"What'd you do?" Brody mumbled, his words coming out slurred as things started to become blurry."Hey, don't come near me." Brody could hear his brother yelling, just as he had done moments before.
"Don't touch him." The youngest Barnes whispered to himself, his head lulling to the side as his eyes rolled back into his head.
"Don't touch my brother."
