"People are going to die, Buck." Steve told the brothers as they all stood in the last helicarrier.

Steve and Sam had managed to disable two out of the three of HYDRA's weapons, they were so close to stopping HYDRA. But they had sent Brody and Bucky to guard the last ship.

"Brody, don't make me do this." Steve begged the two brothers as they gave him no recognition, back to the blank slates HYDRA had made them.

"What'd you just call me?" The younger Barnes mumbled softly in confusion, ignoring the glare from Bucky.

"Your name is Jason Brody Barnes. You and your brother James Buchanan Barnes were taken by HYDRA-"

"Stop talking," Bucky hissed out as he lunged at the Captain. Brody stood still, watching with wide eyes as Bucky and Steve fought.

The younger boy looked down at his wrist, listening to the metal squeak as he opened and closed his hand.

"Drop it." Brody's head snapped up as he heard Steve yelling, watching as the blond choked out Bucky.

That's when something seemed to snap back in place and the boy started going at Steve. Throwing punches and using all his power to try and bury one of his knives into Steve's chest.

"Jace, stop-" Steve let out a grunt as Brody dug a knife into his thigh. By that time Bucky had also managed to reload one of his guns and shoot Steve in the back of the shoulder.

The Captain kicked Brody hard, the boy falling down to where Bucky was in the bottom of the ship. The two soldiers shared a glare, looking up as Steve disabled the last helicarrier.

Suddenly the ship began to shake, the whole thing starting to fall apart as bullets started to fire.

"Brody, move!" Bucky shouted as he tackled his brother out of the way, a piece of the ship falling on top of him and pinning him to the ground.

"No, come on." Brody sighed, pushing hard against the metal as he tried to lift it.

"Again," Steve instructed coming to the boy's side. Both of them lifted up the bar, leaving just enough space for Bucky to escape.

"You know me-"

"No, I don't," Bucky shouted as he slammed his fist into Steve's face.

"Bucky, Jace, you've known me our whole lives." Bucky let out another grunt as he hit the blond.

"Buck, stop. Please, stop." Brody pleaded, grabbing onto his brother's shoulders.

"Why do you care?" He growled at his little brother.

"I don't know."

"You wanted everyone to call you Brody, but I wouldn't stop calling you Jace." Steve panted out as he tried to reach the two brothers. "Your names are James Buchanan Barnes and Jason Brody Barnes-"

"Shut up." Bucky continued to shout as he jumped at Steve once more, the blond not even fighting back at this point.

"Jace, look at me." Brody's eyes were trained on his brother in a mix of worry and shock, not knowing what was going on. "Look at me, Jace," Steve called once again as he pulled the boy's attention. "You have scars on the inside of your mouth because you used to bite your cheek when you were anxious." The boy couldn't help but run his tongue over the skin, feeling the rigid scars.

"Stop talking to him," the older boy shouted as he continued to swing at Steve.

"I'm not going to fight you. Either of you." Steve dropped his shield through the broken glass, letting it fall out of the helicarrier. "You're my friend, Bucky."

"What? He's not your friend?" Bucky hissed out nodding to Brody, overwhelmed with anger.

"Jace, you were in love with me. You thought I didn't know." Steve watched as the boy slowly meet his eyes, recognition coming over him.
"I loved you back."

Brody seemed to genuinely stumble back as the memories hit him again, remembering all the time he had spent with Steve and Bucky.

With another shout Bucky tackled Steve, still refusing to remember.

"You're our mission."

"You're the first person I told," Brody called out shakily. Bucky's fist stopped in midair, Steve holding his breath underneath the soldier. "We were stationed, and we were about to get captured. And you told me you knew." Tears were clouded in Brody's eyes as he looked as his brother.

"It's lies, Brody." Bucky hissed out as he brought his fist down on Steve's face, hitting the man over and over again.

"Bucky, stop!" Brody shouted as he sprinted behind his brother, grabbing onto his wrist.

"Then finish it," Steve mumbled out as his injuries seemed to get the better of him. The two Barnes brothers stared down at him in disbelief. "Because I'm with you til the end of the line, pal. And way after that."

Something seemed to click inside the eldest Barnes, looking down at Steve with wide eyes. However before anyone could react the glass cracked from underneath the three, sending them falling out of the helicarrier and spiraling to the ground.

Brody gasped for breath as he pulled himself out of the water, Bucky dragging in Steve right beside him.

"We can't stay here," Bucky told Brody with a frown. "We don't have to go back. But we can't stay here."

"I know Buck," Brody looked down at Steve. "Just let me say goodbye this time. I don't want to leave again without saying goodbye."

"I know, kid. Take your time." Bucky gave a soft nod, wandering away from the water as he waited for his brother.

"Hey, come on Captain," Brody put the blond's head in his lap as he coughed up some water.

"Hi," Steve smiled up at the Barnes boy tiredly. Brody let out a bright laugh, tears in his eyes.

"Hey, Cap. You did it." Brody ran his hands through the man's wet hair. Steve grabbed onto the boy's wrist, holding it close to his face.

"I loved you too. Always have." Steve whispered, Brody letting out a sad laugh as tears fell down his face.

"You knew I loved you, dick." The two shared a soft laugh. A miserable laugh that made Brody feel something similar to when he let go of the train all those years ago. "I wanted to say goodbye this time, because you know I hate leaving you." Brody forced a smile.

"Always looking out for me," Steve coughed once again as he placed a hand in Brody's cheek. "I know."

The dark haired boy leaned in, placing a soft kiss to Steve's lips. Trying so hard to get back all the time they had lost, try to get some proof that all the suffering had been worth it. To prove that he would do it all over again if it meant he got to see Steve. The blond held onto Brody tightly, knowing he would be gone again in a matter of seconds.

"I love you, Cap."

And without another word Brody followed after his brother, once again leaving behind the man he loved.
