Emma's POV

It's been two weeks, and I still take the longest route to my classes. I'm completely over the break up, but I'm not over the fact that he made me choose between him and Ashton. He knew I was going to pick Ashton and he still asked me anyway. I'm so mad. Not hurt anymore, but mad.

"Hey love, how's it going?" Ashton asked me.

I smiled, and tried to calm the butterflies that hadn't gone away since that night. "I'm great!"

He laughed. "Love the enthusiasm."

I could feel my cheeks heat slightly and looked away. Which was a mistake because of what was down the hallway.

Ash noticed the change and followed my eyes. He quickly grabbed the belt loops on my way too short shorts, (and yes I may have worn them just to spite Alex) and pulled me closer to him. "Stop. Don't do anything you'll regret."

I took a deep breath and flipped my hair to the left in an effort to avoid seeing him with his new girlfriend. "I'm cool, I'm good." I even stuck my hip out.

"Good."

Okay, so Ashton had removed his hand from my belt loops and placed it on my hip. I honestly wouldn't have noticed it, but I could feel goosebumps rise on my skin where a sliver of his finger had moved up and under my shirt.

"Guys!"

I jumped and Ashton removed his hand. Is it bad that I didn't want him to?

"Yeah?" Ashton answered since I was obviously very distracted.

"Guess what!" Sam yelled.

"You and Michael are engaged!" I shouted.

"Aww, congratulations you guys. We always knew you'd be perfect for each other," Ash smirked.

Michael and Sam both glared at us, and we just laughed.

"No." Michael said, but I definitely noticed the way he looked at her, then grabbed her left hand.

"It's your birthday tomorrow!" Sam yelled louder than need be.

"Yup," I said. "I'm turning eighteen.. Yay."

"You could stand to tone down your enthusiasm a little," Ash whispered in my ear.

I laughed, and turned my head to his chest to hide that I was laughing even harder due to Sam's irritated look.

"What do you want to do?" she asked.

I shrugged. "I kind of just want to stay home. Hang out with you guys and eat pizza, watch movies."

"You are so lame," she groaned.

"I'm sorry. I just want it to be a low-key birthday."

"Fine. But when there's another major event in your life, that's the last thing we're gonna do."

She glared one more time at me, then left with Michael.

"She is so intense," Ashton laughed. "But I love her."

"Me too."

"I have a surprise for you."

I turned to look at him, with a smile already spread wide on my face. "What is it?"

"I'm so not telling you!"

"Why not?"

"Because it's for your birthday, and I don't want to tell you."

I frowned, but he just smiled and put his arm over my shoulders, steering me to class.
