Ashton's POV

I stretched and rolled over. Once my eyes connected with the ice blue of Emma's, I sat up and smiled... I didn't get a response back. I frowned and stood up. She turned away and I followed her into the kitchen.

"You okay?"

"Not really, but I think I will be.."

"Yeah?" I tried not to sound too eager, but the way she was looking at me right now gave me a little bit of hope.

"Yeah.. I think we just need to talk. Alex needs to understand that we're just friends, and that, that's the way we act."

My heart broke. "Right. You still want to be with Alex?"

"Why wouldn't I?"

I could name a whole list of reasons.

"What?"

"What?"

"You just said you could name a whole list of reasons."

"I did?"

"I thought that's what you said.."

I bit my lip.

Em shrugged and pulled out a piece of fruit from the bag she was holding. "I could've heard you wrong."

"Is he going to be willing to talk to you yet?"

"If he wants me to go to his game tonight he will."

"Does he want you to go?"

"Yeah. I texted him and asked him, and he said yes." She pulled her phone out and handed it to me. Sure enough, that's exactly what happened. I handed it back to her, and she slid it in her back pocket. "And I'm already wearing his fan shirt, and I definitely didn't want to change."

"I noticed that.."

"Well, I have to get to school. A few of the teams' girlfriends are going to create this spirit tunnel for the guys."

"Oh.."

She threw the bag away and came over to wrap her arms around me. After a few agonizing seconds, she pulled away slightly and kissed my cheek. "Thanks for listening Ash, especially since I know he's not your favorite topic."

"No problem," I said, my voice shaking slightly.

She hugged me again, this time quickly, and then pulled away to grab her keys. "Love you!"

"Yeah, love you too." I whispered and half heartedly waved.

"I heard the word love," Sam said, her blonde curls bouncing as she walked into the kitchen and to the fridge.

"When did you have time to do that?"

"I had Em wake me up, and don't change the subject."

"It's not what you think," I sighed.

"Oh?"

"She was just saying that to me in a friend way. It'd be like me telling you I love you."

"I do love you."

"Aww, I love you too babe."

She laughed.

"I'm sorry, I think I'm missing something here," Michael said as he walked groggily into the kitchen. At least I wasn't the only one still in pajamas.

Sam spun around, a couple strands of hair catching on her lips. She quickly removed them and adjusted her tribal print, infinity scarf. "We were just expressing our love for each other."
