"Princess Vrinda, we're already late, I have to dress you up and you're not even trying to wake up." the voice of a stressful Sanchi echoed in my years. "Damn you, Sanchi. At this rate yours would quite astoundingly be the last voice I hear before my time comes." I replied groaning. The annoyance was evident in her voice. The truth can hurt but alas! It's the truth and it cannot be avoided.

Sanchi slowly came towards me, holding a bright yellow sari, beautifully embroidered with gold and some other heavyweight jewellery. I looked at her, slightly astonished at her choice of clothes to be worn by me. "Don't look at me like that, princess. You have to wear this today. It would be a disgrace for the kingdom of Dwarka, if one princess of theirs looked better than the other." She quipped, implying at Vatsala.

"You know this is not a competition, right? It's a bizarre concept to just think of such a thing. Clothes represent comfort not fodder for petty gossip!" I groaned in disbelief.  Sanchi sighed dropping the costumes on the dressing tables and gestured the other maids to assemble the heavy saree.
"It is not a competition, Vrinda. But it is your moral responsibility to keep up to your mothers's legacy. Right now she's not a part of high society, which means that you are her representative. She's likely the most beautiful woman alive and you are her daughter! For the time being you should think of your exiled family's reputation too."

I rolled out of my bed and tied my hair into a messy bun. Arranging my white cotton sari that I slept in, I headed towards my bathing chamber. Sanchi was in full preparation to make me look attractive today. Maybe because she knew a lot of princes from distant lands would be present at the event.

I quickly stripped and set foot in the huge tub of warm water. I loved warm water baths. They were always so calming and euphoric. It was a great way to begin one's day. I let myself relax by switching off from the entire world. For a few limited yet magical moments, it was just me and myself. Nothing else. I loved this feeling of exclusivity, that I was experiencing at the moment. It gave me a strange sense of self that I liked. I could feel the gentle hands of the maids applying the lotion on my skin. My eyes instantly closed, focusing entirely on the pleasure.
Soon my bath was over and the warm effect of the water was replaced with a chilling stroke of the cool and condescending air. I hurriedly got out of my bathtub and dried myself. I felt afresh after the relaxing bath, ready to face the day. I entered my dressing chamber and Sanchi helped me drape the very heavy yellow sari that she had chosen for me.

"Sanchi this has to be the heaviest sari that I've ever worn. I don't think I'll be able to walk in this." I exclaimed, with anxiety clear in my tone. "There's no gain without any pain, Princess." She simply stated. I sighed. She made me sit in front of the mirror and started braiding my hair. In the mean time, the other maids quickly started helping me wear my jewelry. One of them applied Kohl in my eyes. They seemed darker than the usual, but I didn't complain.
