"Don't forget to owl us everyday!" My mother chokes out as she begins to sob, burying her head into my fathers shoulder in an attempt to hide her tearful face. My dad kneels down in front of me, taking my small hands into his own, as he rolls his blue eyes at my mums overdramatic goodbyes, causing me to laugh.
"Be a good girl for us, Rosie," he says, his eyes glazing over slightly. The hypocrite. "Make us proud."
Wow. I'm quite surprised by my dad for actually having a serious moment for once. I mean, usually he can't go a single sentence without joking around, or attempting to secretly plot with me about doing a prank on some of our uptight muggle neighbours. They don't like us very much. I wonder why. but now he's actually being... Whats the word? Oh yeah, genuine! "Just don't blow anyone up this time!" He finishes with the signature Heartweather smirk plastered on his face. Yup. He's back.
"Oh Merlin, dad! That was one time! I apologised to the old lady!" You see, one of my dad and I's pranks kind of backfired... Lets just say mum wasn't very happy.
"I'm only teasing!" He says, "Anyway, I want to keep uncle John and I's record of being the only people to actually get a detention before they were even sorted!" He got a smack on the back of the head from mum for that.
"Oh David!" My mum says sighing, as she rubs her forehead with her fingers, as if the mere thought of her husband gives her a migrane. "You're such a bad influence on Rose, she has enough of that with uncle John, and James as it is! At this point she'll be blowing up the toilet on a regular basis!" She scolded. Good old mum. Always thinking on the positive side of things.
"Merlin, mum! That was one time!" I say. Again. "So much faith, mother," I say shaking my head, "so much faith."
"Come on then, pup!" my dad says cheerfully, taking my hand and leading me to the barrier, between platforms 9 and 10, which separates the muggle world from the magical world.
At this point I'm practically bursting with excitement, waiting to board the scarlet steam engine which will take me to Hogwarts. My new home.
Dad hands me Artemis, my snowy white owl, and picks up my trunk in one hand, as his other is still grasping my own, and together, we cross the barrier leading onto Platform 9 3/4.
