To say I was surprised would be an understatement. Everyone was staring, mouths agape at me, that I began to feel self conscious. It was only broken by James grumbling, "I wish I'd saved the bloody cat now", though he still held a proud smile on his face. James truly was my big brother in my eyes, and I would always be his little sister.
Madame Hooch quickly said, "if you don't want it-" but before she could finnish, I shouted, "Of course I want it!" Whilst James yelled, "Can I have it then?" At James outburst, everyone suddenly began claiming reasons as to why they were worthy of being a member of their house Quidditch team.
"SILENCE!" Ordered Madame Hooch. Everyone shut up. "Thank you." She added sarcastically. "You must earn your position on your house Quidditch team." She explained. "Miss Heartweather has earned her position due to her speedy, and agile flight when saving the life off this cat. She was brave, and kind. Many people wouldn't want to endanger their own life to rescue a cat, or any animal." I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable at her praise.
"It was nothing really." I said, blushing profusely.
"Nonsense." She said, waving off my modesty. "Now, Qidditch practice will begin next Saturday -the one after this one-" she added, rolling her eyes at my puzzled expression. "at 10 o'clock sharp. Don't be late." Sh warned.
"I won't!" I replied grinning.
"Oh, before I forget, your going to need a broom aren't you." She said, searching my face for confirmation.
"Actually..." I mumbled, chuckling nervously. "I sort of got my dad to put an undetectable extension charm on my bag and sort of smuggled my broom into school." I explained sheepishly.
"Of course you did." She chuckled, before addressing the class, and saying "class dismissed!" And heading over to her office.
It turns out the adorable furball I rescued was a stray, so I get to add him to my collection of cats! Yes, you heard that right. Collection. James says I have an obsession. I call it a healthy hobby. I was playing with him in the common room late one night, whilst the others were down at dinner. I was thinking, trying to decide on a name for him, when all of a sudden the fire gave out a large pulse. It attracted the attention of both me and the cat. For a few minutes, nothing happened, so I went back to stroking, and rearranging the cats fur, when the fire pulsed again. This time it seems, that the cat was rather curious, so he padded over to the fireplace on her soft, fluffy paws, and gave a little sniff of investigation. I saw the fire draw back a little bit, and I suddenly got a terrible feeling, but before I could do anything, the fire lurched forward in a huge puff of smoke, and surrounded the cat. I screamed, running towards my beloved pet, and held it in my arms as the flames drew away. I didn't care that my arms were scorching, the flames having burnt at my flesh. I only cared that my cat was in my arms, gasping for breath. I cried out in grief for my cat. I may not have had him long, only for a few days, he was still my pet. My body wracked with sobs as I tried to comfort him before he passed. I knew he wouldn't survive the scorching she endured. "Shh," I sniffled, "you'll be alright, it'll be over soon."
My tears slipped down my face as I cried.
Then everything exploded in a blast of pure white light.
Suddenly, I had disappeared, in a blinding flash, and landed on what seemed to be a thick, white cloud.
"What the..." I gasped as I stared down in awe, at my planet. The Earth was miles below me.
"Beautiful, isn't it." Came a gentle voice from behind me. I spun round quickly, to face a woman with beautiful white, feathered wings on her back. She had golden, blonde hair, which hung in ringlets down, past her shoulders, and had a face with perfect symmetry. She cradled her hands reverently in front of her. She wore a snow coloured, layered dress, which hung low on her shoulders, and covered her legs and feet. The sleeves were cut short revealing her fair arms. Her skin was decorated in silver runes. "Who are you?" I heard myself asking the woman in front of me, although t barely came out a whisper.
She chuckled, it sounded very similar to that of a tinkling bell, "Names." She mused, "I have not used a name in a long time. Though, people once called me Aurore."
"That's a lovely name!" I smiled, "why haven't you used it in so long?" I felt myself growing more confident around the lady. She was so kind, and easy to talk to.
"It has been many years since I have been in the company of humans." She replied wistfully.
She glided gracefully over to me, and clasped my small hands in her own.
"Listen carefully young one," she began earnestly, "we do not have long. I must warn you, your life if full of hardships, and you have many complicated decisions ahead of you." She gave my hand a pull, and guided me over to the edge of the cloud, and gestured for me to sit down at the edge with her, so that our legs were swaying in the air. "See over their?" She pointed to the horizon where the sea was glistening in the moonlight. I nodded. "The moon has always been one with the sea. The moon pulls the sea. You, young one, have the blessing of the Sea, so you, in turn, are eligible to have the blessing of the moon, though it has not been gifted. Yet." The lady informed me. I was at a loss for words. "Now, you are one of a kind, Miss Rosalie Silverwell Heartweather, and it is not just your blessings that make you so. You and I, we are the same. We are part of a race, I think you are familiar with. Angels." I think my jaw may be permanently locked open now. I was completely speechless. I'm dreaming. Yes, that's it. Ill wake up, back in my snuggly four poster bad in the dorm, running late for potions. I'm not currently sat atop a cloud talking to an angel.
"Now, before you decide weather or not you need to visit a mental institution, let me tell you a little about our kind. I am an angel of death, whereas you are an angel of life. I stay in the afterlife, you live on earth, however, when your time comes, you will join me, through there." she gestured to two, large, golden gates. With intricate designs decorating the structure. "We all start off like you, and once out purpose is fulfilled in life, we join the afterlife. One angel is born on earth every hundred years. I was the last." She explained. "Every angel is different. We each have special gifts. I have the gifts of love, light and purity. I can make anyone fall in love, create light, and purify anything made of pure evil, or darkness."
"Like a Dementor?" I wondered out loud.
"Yes." She nodded. "Now, if we just wait a few more moments, I'm sure Selene will be along." She stated. What?
"Ah, here we are!" she stood up.
I then saw a silvery blur travelling along the horizon, travelling closer and closer, until I realised that it wasn't a blur, but a chariot puller by two pure white horses. The chariot slowed to a standstill, and a woman slipped off and onto the cloud. She was dressed in a long silvery chiton, silver sandals, adorned in delicate bracelets and necklaces. Her auburn hair was piled on top of her head in a neat knot.
"Aurore, Rosalie." Spoke the unfamiliar woman. "Have you told her?" she asked Aurore.
"She is ready, my lady." smiled Aurore.
"Then we shall begin."
"Rosalie Silverwell Heartweather, I, Selene, Goddess of the Moon, have come to give you the blessing of the Moon, in order for you to fully harness your powers. Do you accept."
I bowed my head, and knelt, like Aurore demonstrated, and, with as much confidence as I could muster, spoke my vows. "I Rosalie Silverwell Heartweather, accept the blessing of the Moon." I felt a sudden surge of power run through my veins, and for a second, I felt excruciating pain in my back and I dropped to the floor arching my back. With a last burst of pain, a pair of white, fluffy wings burst from my shoulder blades. It felt like water washing away my former appearance, and my skin blossomed with the runes I had seen earlier on Aurore. I was wearing a chiton, not unlike Selenes, with decorative moons around the waist and neckline. My pendant also morphed into an aqua coloured crescent moon. I felt my hair flow backwards, and I felt a silver circlet form atop my forehead. It swirled across my forehead, dip above my ears and curl around my ears to secure itself.
"Welcome Roslie," smiled Aurore, "Angel of life."
Selene came forward, a smile gracing her delicate features. "You may stand."
Aurore was positively beaming as she engulfed me in a hug.
"I can't believe it's you!" She cried, repeatedly. I must have looked confused, because she laughed, and started explaining.
"There is a prophesy, foretelling that there will come a time, when the war against evil cannot be won by man, and the angel of life will end it. You are the angel from the prophesy." She explained. "The runes on an Angels arm, show who they are and what their powers are. You have the power to bring those who have perished, back to life. Only there is a catch..." She said wearily. "You can only resurrect people once, when your powers are at their strongest. You will know when you are ready." I nod in understanding.
"That will be the point when you become a full Angel, and enter the afterlife." Added Selene.
"Although," began Aurore, "as you cannot use your full powers straight away, you can feel, see and commune with the spirits of your loved ones."
Awesome.
"I'm sorry, but we really should be going." Apologised Selene, as she took my hand and guided me into the chariot.
"Be careful!" Called Aurore with a wave, "and don't tell anyone about your powers!" We were about to set off when a Aurore gave a cry of protest. Selene rolled her eyes, muttering to herself 'every single time'.
Aurore rushed to the chariot, and pressed a small fluff ball into my hands.
"He is your guardian." She whispered, as the fluff ball morphed into a pure white, fluffy, winged, kitten. He has been given the powers of protection by the Angels, that's why his fur is this colour. His name is Angel. He will always be there for you in times of need."
"Thank you." I mumbled, I have her a hug and a final goodbye.
"Let's go." I murmured to Selene as she urged the horses onwards.
We soon arrived outside the window of the Gryffindor Common room. I turned around to thank Selene, and gave her my signature bone-crushing hug.
"Don't worry about your appearance. Only those who know your true identity can see it. Good look." She whispered.
I stepped out the chariot and into the common room, where I have my last goodbye and watched Selene ride into he night.
Just as I disappeared, the common room opened, and an arguing Lily and James stumbled in, closely followed by Sirius and Remus, who chatted to each other, ignoring the shouting eleven year olds in front of them.
Lily and James each stormed up the stairs to their respective dormitories in a huff, after their quarrel. I hadn't noticed I had shed a few tears as I saw James completely ignore me, for the first time ever.
"What's wrong?" Asked a sad voice next to me. I turned to see Sirius beside me, eyeing my tears sorrowfully.
"It's the first time James has ignored me, and forgotten to say good night. We have a secret door in our rooms, as we are neighbours, we only have a wall between our houses and our rooms our directly next to each other. We've never not said goodnight to each other as long as I remember. I guess I just miss my brother." I admitted, only partly truthfully. I also suppose that everything I learnt tonight has finally caught up with me. But I couldn't tell Sirius that...
"I'm sure James will be back to normal in no time. He's just in a strop because He and Lily have been arguing all dinner time." Sirius assured me.
"I doubt he even noticed I wasn't at dinner." I mumbled sadly. By Sirius' crestfallen expression, I learnt that he in fact, had not noticed. "It doesn't matter." I picked up Angel, and headed to the girls staircase. "Goodnight, Sirius." I called half heartedly down the stairs as I headed up to the dorm, where I changed into my pyjamas, and curled up into bed with Angel.
