Pain. That's all I felt. I was suffocating in the air. As I was drifting in and out of consciousness, I was only aware of the tightness of my airway and lungs. The darkness was my painkiller. It felt like hours had gone by since I collapsed, but I knew it was only a few minutes. My attempt of breathes were short and ragged. It was like all the oxygen had been sucked out is the air, and I was being suffocated. It's the most pain I've ever had to endure. In the state I was, I barely noticed Sirius haul me up, and James grasp my hand tightly, sobbing "don't leave me! Ro, stay with me!" Over and over again.
I felt myself slipping away.
I knew I was done for when the darkness came, smothering me into unconsciousness.
I began to hear frantic voices, whispering urgently into my ears.
Come to us, Rose!
Come to the water!
I quickly identified them as Celeste and Edward.
I was then jolted back to reality, once again, unable to breathe. Suddenly, I realised what I had to do.
With my final ounce of strength, I grasped my necklace tightly, and willed myself to the familiar, cooling waves.
My form flickered, as if evaporating , ad turned to mist as I slipped through Sirius' grasp.
I felt myself free falling.
Waiting for the impact of crashing onto the stone floor, I braced myself.
Only that wasn't quite what happened. Instead of crashing into the stone floor, like I thought I would, I was met by huge splash, as I plummeted into the lake.
I felt my legs melding together, and my robes disappearing, replaced by my shells and tail.
I took in a gasp of breath, and I soon found myself breathing normally again.
"Thank Merlin your alright!" A voice whimpered behind me. I turned around, only to be engulfed in a hug from a blubbering Celeste. "We were so worried! Daddy," she started, giving a pointed glare to her guilty looking father, "forgot to warn you that you must drink plenty of water during the day, to avoid... Well you know... Shrivelling up like a raisin and... You know... Suffocating..." She said awkwardly.
"It's fine!" I assured her laughing, "I'd probably forget, too!"
"Well... Now you know!" Said Edward, sheepishly. I laughed.
"I really should be going, my friends will be so worried, but thank you for helping me!" I grinned, giving them both a hug. "Bye!" I called as I propelled myself towards the surface, and onto the land where my form shifted back into that of a human.
"Note to self" I murmured to myself, "always have water on you!" And with that, I sprinted towards the castle to find my friends and James, who was likely to be having kittens. Hell, he'll be having freaking lions, by how overprotective that boy is!
