Once I recovered from the shock a bit, I started looking around for who or what could have spoken in my mind. I soon noticed that the only culprit could be the giant pink blob.
I am not a blob! To voice cried indignantly.
Sorry? I thought back.
Apology accepted. Replied the voice.
Anyway I'm a squid, not a blob. And I am here to warn you that strange things will happen soon. He... thought? A lot quieter this time. What will happen? I asked.
I'm sorry, but I cannot tell you. He thought apologetically.
I really must be going now, he raised a tentacle in a kind of wave.
Good luck. He thought to me and swam off.
Good luck? I thought to the squid, good luck with what?!
I quickly swam to the surface of the lake, only to find James having a literal panic attack, searching for me and screaming out my name.
"James! James! Calm down in fine!" I yelled, grabbing his shoulders and pulling him into a hug.
"I thought I'd lost you!" He sobbed, tears streaming down his face.
"Shhh, it's okay! I'm okay!" I soothed as I held him. Once he had calmed down considerably, I said, "lets get out, yeah?" He nodded, "I've got loads to tell you."
We swam across the lake, and sat down on the grass in the sub to dry off a bit.
"What happened, Ro?" He whispered, "you were down there for a good ten minutes, I thought I'd lost you!" He held me close, as if he thought he'd lose me if he let go.
"James, shhhh" I whispered, "I promise I'll never leave you."
"What happened?" He repeated quietly, mumbling into my chest.
"I met the giant squid." I sighed.
"So your saying you can breathe under water?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, James! Do keep up!"
"And the giant squid said good luck?" He questioned. I nodded in confirmation.
"Well what do you think is gonna happen?" He asked me, sounding a bit worried. He had calmed down considerably once I had began to explain what had happened, and that I couldn't drown.
"I don't know, James." I sighed. "I really don't know."
"I'm sure you'll figure it out," he smiled kindly.
"Yeah," I mumbled absentmindedly.
"I'm gonna go find the guys." He said, getting up. "You coming?" He asked me.
"No, you go ahead" I smiled, "I'm just gonna think things over a bit more."
"Okay, bye!" He called, waving as he began the trek up to the castle.
I sat there for what seemed like five minutes, but was probably something like an hour. Once James had left, I decided to climb the tree behind us, so that I could have a little more alone time. I was looking over the lake when I saw something that caught my eye. It was a young girl trapped in the rocks at the other side of the lake. She had her head down, and she looked passed out. I have to help her!
I jumped down from my branch, and swiftly dived into the lake. I quickly reached the girl, and saw that she was being attacked by a Gryndylow. From what it looked like, her legs were stuck in the rocks. Only her shoulders and arms were above the water. She had lovely green hair, like the colour of the fields near my house. It was beautiful.
I quickly took out my wand, and helped her to defeat the Grindylow. Once it was destroyed, I turned to help her. She looked at me in utter shock before whispering, "thank you!"
"Your welcome!" I smiled kindly. "Let's get you out shall we?" I asked her. She nodded smiling.
I ducked under the water, looking for her legs, so that I could see about freeing her. The first thing however was that she didn't have legs. She had a tail. She was Mermaid! That explains the hair. I quickly got back to work, and began shifting the rocks and derby that has gathered around her tail, trapping her.
Once she was free a she hugged me tightly.
"You must come meet my family!" She exclaimed happily.
"Are you sure?" I asked, "I wouldn't want to intrude, or anything." I muttered sheepishly.
"None sense!" She announced, "you are most welcome!"
She then began leading the way through the seaweed, and down to the bottom of the lake. We were so far down that we couldn't even see the surface, and the pressure didn't seem to be affecting me at all. We passed many fish, and different water life on our way to the young mermaids home.
Eventually we came to a small cave at the bottom of the lake, with coral and different water plants decorating the outside. The mermaid knocked on the door swiftly three times, and the door opened.
"Celeste!" Called a melodic voice, and a purple haired mermaid swam out of the cave, wrapping her arms around the young mermaids small frame. "We didn't know where you were! You didn't come home for hours! Are you alright?" Asks the violet mermaid frantically. She was clearly Celeste's mother, judging by her behaviour around her.
"Mum I'm fine now! I was trapped in the rocks, and a Grindylow was coming to finish me off, but this girl here," she said gesturing to me, "saved me! She destroyed the Grindylow and freed my tail! I told her you would want to meet her!" She smiled to her mother, hugging her once again.
"Thank you!" Sobbed her mother, letting go of her daughter and pulling me into a tight hug, "you saved my baby! How can I ever repay you?" She cried.
"Don't worry, it was wonderful enough just to meet you guys, you are such a kind family!" I said smiling. They both blushed furiously and pulled me into another hug.
"Celeste?" Called a male voice from the cave, "is that you, my darling?" A merman with a large deep blue tail swam out if the cave and showered his daughter in hugs and kisses. "I was so worried!" He sighed out in relief.
"I'm fine, Daddy," giggled Celeste, "this lovely girl here saved me!"
The man turned to me beaming, and scooped me up into a hug, very similar to his wife's.
"I cannot thank you enough for saving my wonderful daughter!" He smiled at me.
"Don't worry about it!" I smiled at them.
"Would you like to stay for some tea, dear?" Asked Celeste's mother.
"That would be lovely thank you!" I beamed, swimming behind them into their beautiful home.
"Oh goodness!" Called Celeste's mother, "we don't even know your name!" She laughed.
"It's Rose," I smiled, "Rose Silverwell Heartweather." Shaking her outstretched hand.
"Heartweather?" Asked her father, "as in David Heartweather?"
"yeah!" I grinned, "that's my father! Do you know him?" I asked.
"Yes!" He exclaimed happily, "he saved us from an evil wizard who was trying to destroy my family! Your father saved many lives of the merpeople." I smiled at him.
"That's my dad!" I said happily.
"Rose?" Asked Celeste, "will you come visit us?" She asked me, her voice laced with hope.
"Of course!" I grinned!
"Someone's got to keep you out of trouble!" I joked. Her father chuckled at me.
"You are quite a girl, Rose," he smiled. "Which is why I would like to give you the blessing."
"What a wonderful idea, Edward!" Exclaimed his wife happily, as she poured some tea out of a teapot made of beautiful shells. How she managed it i don't know, as we are currently underwater.
"What's the blessing?" I asked him as i sipped my tea.
"Once in their lifetime, a mermaid is allowed to bless a mortal with the ability to become a mermaid or merman at will. I was going to offer this to your father, only I heard a voice, it was telling me that it wasn't time." He explained. "I understand now that the blessing was meant for you." He smiled.
"It would be an honour, sir!" I smiled.
"Please, just Edward." He corrected with a grin.
"Are you ready?" He asked me one we'd finished our tea. I nodded smiling.
He took my head into his hands, and mumbled in an ancient language. I felt the water around us swirling and getting warmer. After a few seconds, things went back to normal. I looked down, only to see that I had a shimmering ocean blue tail where my legs should be, and instead of my school shirt, I was wearing blue shells, along with a pendant around my neck. Another thing that I noticed, is that my hair was no longer it's usual chocolate curls, but long, curly, ocean blue locks.
"Wow!" Whispered Celeste, "you look beautiful!" She exclaimed.
"Thank you!" I blushed, as went to hug Edward. "It was wonderful to meet you all, but I really should be going, it will be time for lessons soon, and I don't want anyone getting worried." I smiled at them all. "I'll come visit soon! Goodbye!" And I began to make my way to the surface.
