Chapter One

I listen to my footsteps crush the dead leaves as I walk through the forest. My feet hurt, and my stomach is hallow. I sit on a log and stare at the ground. I open my locket. It's silver surface is cool against my fingertips. I stare at the smiling faces of my family. I get caught up in my own thoughts, but I'm brought back to reality when a twig snaps. My hand immediately goes for my knife. I don't move. I don't breath. I just listen. The forest is silent, other than the rapid beating of my heart. Another snap. Silence. I keep listening, tightening my grip on the knife. I hear growls and moans. It's a walker. I look around on the ground. I notice a small rock. I carefully pick it up, not wanting to make a single sound. I throw the rock as far as I can to my left. It hits something hard, and the walker follows the sound. This is my chance. I pick up my backpack and run. I keep running until my lungs burn and I collapse in a clearing.
I stare at the sky, heavily panting. My stomach rumbles, and I sit up. Looks like it's time to get some food. I grab my backpack and put the straps on my shoulders. I then grab my bow and quiver. I walk into the woods, humming a little as I walk. The air is cool and crisp. I notice a small rabbit, and I silently move my hand to the draw string of my bow. I pull back, focusing my vision on the animals head. I pull back slowly, still keeping my eyes focused on the rabbit. I release, and my arrow meets it's mark. The animal collapses, dead. I walk over to it and pull my arrow out of the rabbits skull. I wipe the arrowhead on my tattered jeans, and put it back in my quiver. I kneel down to examine the rabbit when I feel the barrel of a gun press against the back of my head.

A/N|| Ahh, suspense! So that's the first chapter. I'm going to save you the trouble and tell you this: I'm going to mess up. A lot of stuff. Spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc, etc. And I know I probably got some bow terminology incorrect. But, you guys sorta understand what I'm talking about, right? K, cool. And for any of you who follow TWD, you'll probably notice things from the show as the story goes on. But this will not follow the plot of the show (or comic). Like, at all. And... Yeeeaaahhhh. Oh, and I am a Bethyl shipper, so please no hate. Thank you! Baaaiii! \(^-^)/
