I hit the can my first try. It fell off the fence post quickly. I smiled. Rick patted me on the shoulder.
"Nice. Keep going." I hit a few more cans, imagining them as walkers. The Walker that killed- I push the thought out of my mind.
"Alright, let's head back." Rick said. He pulled me aside.
"Here." He hands me a gun and holster. "You know how to use it, so I think it's okay for you to carry it around camp." I nod.
We all piled into the various vehicles and drove back to the farm. Honestly, this was the first time in a long time I actually felt safe enough to be bored. I sit on the couch and browse through the book shelves. Everything I've already read. Carl comes up and sits next to me.
"Hi..." I say, still looking at the suck-ass collection of books.
"Hi! What are you doing?"
"Trying to find a good book..."
"Oh. That's cool! Are you bored? 'Cause I know what you could do!" I turn to him and smile.
"And that is?"
"You can play hide and seek with me! Please please please please please...!"
"Oh, I don't know..."
"C'mon! It's REALLY fun..." I sigh.
"Fine. On ONE condition..." I smirk.
"What! What!?"
"You help me find a book to read tonight."
"Okay. On ONE condition..."
I laugh and look at him."What..."
"You read it to me..." I smile.
"Of course!"
"Yay! C'mon let's go!" He grabs my hand and leads me out if the house. We run onto the field.
"Ok, your it. I'll hide. Count to... 35, ok?" I laugh.
"Ok. Stay in the fences, ok. Don't go into the woods." He nods. I cover my eyes and start counting.
"1... 2... 3..." I hear him giggle as he sprints away.
"14... 15... 16..." I try and think of all the places Carl would think to hide as I count.
"34... 35! Ready or not here I come!" I look around me and try to think where he would hide. It's a big property, but not many good hiding spots. It's mostly just fields and farmland, with a few trees scattered around. I smile and make my way back toward the house, thinking the only good spots are over there.
The Greene's property is beautiful. If you go past the fences a little ways (which hopefully he DIDN'T do) it looks over a river, with forest and other various farms scattered around. It's shielded from the hell of the outside world. After the radios and T.V's stopped working, Maggie told me, they had absolutely no clue how awful things were out there. Her father thinks of them as sick people, not as dead monsters like most do.
I glance at the barn, wondering if Carl would hide over there.
A little boy's scream shatters my ear drums.
I sprint down toward the barn, where the scream came from. I grab my gun and follow the sound. Daryl pulls up next to me with his crossbow.
"Carl!" I sprint to the barn. He had his
