"I wonder what happened that made Lara so much shorter than us" Noah blurred out as we sat in the living room together, listening to music while we looked at our phones or laptops. Noah had his laptop in his lap as he was editing a cover he made two days ago. I had walked in when he was singing as I didn't realize he was making a cover and by the steam that was basically blowing out of his ears made me want to run back to my room but, I needed his help with homework.
"Lara!" He groaned and took off his earphones. He had everything set up in his room. The camera, microphone and some a music program along with the ring light to light up the otherwise dark room. After two months of living here, he finally had gotten his room done, even though it was nothing out of the ordinary for a teenage boy. I gave him a sheepish smile as a silent sorry but it really was kind of funny. There's no other pleasure than knowing you've pissed your sibling off.
"Can you help me with homework?" I asked, one foot out of the door ready to run back to safety if he was on his man period. "You know the English paper I talked about yesterday?"
"I'm busy," He said and I huffed by his short answer. He gave me a look to say the conversation was over but I wasn't done just yet.
"Well, can you help me after?"
"Maybe, now leave" With that, he put in his earbuds again and fixed something on his laptop.
"Fine, you sang off-pitch there that last note by the way," I said and laughed when he looked back over at me and glared.
"Fucking leave" He basically yelled at me and took a step towards making me yell and run out of the room, laughing.
Now scattered over the slightly larger living room from our old we had enough space to even fit a love sack which I had grown fond of. Nothing better than sinking down in fluffy heaven with a movie and a bowl of popcorn. Even though the bigger space, I had chosen to snuggle up beside Cole on the sofa. He had wrapped his arm around me and I immediately found comfort in his embrace.
I watched my brothers as they all seemed to be engulfed in their own choice of entertainment, Noah editing, Cole watching the tv while drumming his hand on my arm, Mason on his laptop with homework and Luke with his phone texting Adam by his lovesick expression with an apple in his other hand that he had started eating on but was now making into some form of art.
I had settled in a tired daze after an exhausting dance practice to simply watch as I focused on Cole's slow movement on my upper arm. The glass wall that separated us from the cold December weather almost felt like it didn't exist as it went from ceiling to floor. Outside the bare backyard and covered up pool was disguised in a small layer of snow that had just come today. It was supposed to rain tomorrow morning so the joy of the white winter wonderland wouldn't last for too long.
"Remeber when we always made an igloo during winter and the two snowmen that watched it?" I asked, turning my gaze from the outside to Cole. After a moment he tore his eyes away from the tv and down to me and gave me a soft nod.
"Yeah I do, but we stopped when you were like 12 becuase Mason was beeing a teenager and would rather play video games"
"You joined me dipshit" Mason spoke up but he never looked away from his laptop, typing away furiously. Does he even register what he's typing?
"Becuase you wouldn't go out yeah"
"Why don't we make one this year?" I suggested. As I spoke a light bulb lit up in my head " Oh oh! Why don't we recreate what we used to do and make a video out of it, I heard there was going to be a lot of snow this year"
"That's actually not a bad idea," Noah said and I smiled wider and wanted to puff out my chest for coming up with the idea. The fact that Noah was approving of one of my ideas was almost rare as he would usually not even pay me any attention when I was throwing ideas at him.
